SANFORD, Me. - One by one.

That has been the motto for the Mainers in their midseason turnaround and ride a four-game winning streak after silencing Winnipesaukee, 4-1. The Sanford pitching staff left the Muskrats searching for answers during most of the game.

Jack Mullen (Bowdoin) made his fourth start of the season for the Moose, and he was excellent. Winnipesaukee recorded hits in the first three innings against the right-hander, but Mullen didn't waver, and his defense picked him up.

He would bow out after five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out four, dropping his ERA to 2.40.

In the top of the sixth, Bryce Afthim (Southern Maine) took over and looked dominant, as the offense finally broke through in the bottom half.

A single by Quinn McDaniel (Maine) and a double by Aidan Kane (Delaware) put two on the corners with no outs. Jake Rainess (Maine) smoked a double down the left field line to score both runners. Later, an infield single from Devan Bade (Binghamton) drove in Rainess, 3-0.

Jumping forward to the eighth, Brian Craven (William & Mary) entered and tossed a scoreless frame with two punch-outs.

In the bottom half, it was Bade doing his job again on a sacrifice fly that allowed Kane to tag and come home, 4-0.

Winnipesaukee ended the shutout on an RBI single from Zach DeMattio (Wheaton), but Brady Afthim (UConn) struck out Kohl Abrams (UNC-Asheville) to give the Mainers their fourth-straight win.

The victory gives the green and yellow puts them at 20-20 on the season. Sanford still sits half a game back of Ocean State for the final wild-card spot.

On tap for the Mainers, tomorrow is a doubleheader with the Keene Swamp Bats at Goodall Park, with Gavin Stellpflug (Rutgers) getting the nod in the first game.
