Keene SwampBats 10 - Upper Valley Nighthawks 2

W - Riley Skeen 3-4 (Florida Southwestern): 2.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 2 K

L - Trey Parker 0-1 (Plymouth St.): 2.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

Alumni Field, Keene, N.H. - Thanks in part to four home runs, the Keene SwampBats (15-24) defeated the Upper Valley Nighthawks (18-22) Tuesday night at Alumni Field.

With the score tied 2-2 through five innings, the SwampBats came alive in the bottom of the sixth when Tyler McKenzie (Vanderbilt) hit a two-run homer, his second home run of the game, to give Keene the lead. The SwampBats never looked back, scoring another two runs in the seventh off an error and a balk and four runs in the eighth thanks to a sacrifice fly by Matt Almonte (Pace) and a three-run home run from Tony Santa Maria (Rutgers) to cap off scoring for the night.

Ryan Ignoffo (Eastern Illinois) struck first for the Nighthawks, leading off the second inning with a solo home run, his 11th of the year. They scored again in the fourth when they loaded the bases with a pair of walks and a single by William Sullivan (Troy), scoring on a wild pitch.

Keene's first run also came in the second inning off of a solo home run by McKenzie. Keeping with the theme of the night, Garrett Rice (Missouri Columbia) hit a solo shot of his own in the fourth inning, his seventh home run of the year, to give the SwampBats their second run.

The Nighthawks return to play on Wednesday, July 26th, with an away matchup against the Vermont Mountaineers beginning at 6:30 p.m. The SwampBats take a day off before returning on Thursday, July 28th, with a doubleheader against the Sanford Mainers, with the first game scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.

North Adams SteepleCats 16 - Valley Blue Sox 5

W - Randy Reyes 2-2 (Central Connecticut St): 5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K

L - Ryan Rumsey 0-1 (Xavier): 5.1 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 K

McKenzie Stadium in Holyoke, Mass. - The North Adams SteepleCats (9-30) crushed the Valley Blue Sox (16-24) in an all-around effort.

North Adams' nine-run sixth inning broke the game open. A triple and single from Brady Mutz (Monmouth), another single by Cedric Rose (Massachusetts Lowell), a walk and an error plated nine SteepleCats. North Adams entered the sixth up one but left it up ten. The away team had nine baserunners in the inning and brought twelve batters to the plate. It accounted for more than half of the SteepleCats' total runs.

North Adams scored three in the top of the first through Dixon Black (Monmouth) and Ryan Magdic (Florida Southern). Valley responded in the fourth off a two-run Michael Casaleggio (Palm Beach Atlantic) single. The SteepleCats tacked on nine in the sixth to go up ten. They extended their lead to thirteen in the seventh through a Cedric Rose three-run bomb. Another run in the eighth and made it 16-2. Three runs in the bottom of the eighth for the Blue Sox brought the final score to 16-5.

Every SteepleCats player scored at least one run. Cedric Rose had five RBIs and Brady Mutz had four RBIs and three hits. Six different North Adams batters had multi-hit evenings. Jack Krause (Bowling Green St) was the only Blue Sox batter to have multiple hits.

The SteepleCats play host to the Westerners (18-20) today at 6:30 p.m. The Blue Sox welcome the Blues (28-12) to Holyoke today at 6:35 p.m.

Danbury Westerners 5 - Bristol Blues 1

W - Jack Bowery 4-0 (Marist College): 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K

L - Alec Couture 2-1 (Hartford): 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K

Rogers Park, Danbury, Conn. - A late offensive surge propelled the Danbury Westerners (18-20) to victory over the Bristol Blues (28-12) Tuesday night at Rogers Park.

Trailing by one run heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Westerners got things started with a lead-off double by Michael Becchetti (Fairfield) followed by a single from Billy Gerlott (Penn St.). With runners at first and third, Korey Morton (UCONN) hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1. Danbury took a one-run lead later in the inning off an RBI single by Hank Thomas.

The Westerners improved upon their lead in the eighth, scoring a run off a fielder's choice followed by an error by the pitcher. Later in the inning, Jermaine White (St. John's) scored two runs on an RBI single to close out scoring on the night.

Bristol scored first in the third inning, taking advantage of a pair of walks followed by a single from Derek Tenney (Hartford) to take a 1-0 lead. The Blues held onto the one-run lead for three innings but were unable to build on it, ultimately coming up short.

Both teams return to play on Wednesday, July 27th, with the Westerners hitting the road to take on the North Adams SteepleCats at 6:30 p.m. while the Blues play a road matchup against the Valley Blue Sox at 6:35 p.m.

North Shore Navigators 8 - Mystic Schooners 2

W - Graham Jeffries 2-5 (Salve Regina): 7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K

L - Hector Alejandro 1-1 (Connecticut): 4.0 IP, 6 H, 5 ER (6 R), 3 BB, 5 K

Dodd Memorial Stadium in Norwich, C.T. - The North Shore Navigators (12-28) handled the Mystic Schooners (22-18) after a dominant pitching performance by starter Graham Jeffries (Salve Regina).

Jeffries was lights out in his seven scoreless innings. He mowed down the Schooners lineup, giving up just one hit and one walk, facing two batters over the minimum required. The North Shore starter also struck out seven Mystic batters on route to his second win of the season. It was Jeffries' longest outing of the season and the first time he shut out an opponent.

The Navigators got things started with a five-run second inning. A Nathan Blasick (West Virginia) double, singles from Jake Gustin (Bryant) and Jack Penney (Notre Dame) and a hit batter brought in all five North Shore runners. The Navs added another in the fourth off a Justin Cassella (Elon) RBI single. The score stayed the same until the top of the eighth when North Shore extended its lead to eight. RBIs from Jake Gustin and Connor Bertsch (Dartmouth) scored two Navigators. The Schooners scored two consolation runs in the bottom of the ninth to prevent the shutout.

North Shore had twelve hits compared to Mystic's two. Jake Gustin accounted for four of the Navigators hits while also scoring a run and recording two RBIs. Gustin was the only player to record multiple hits for the Navs. Mystic's Kevin Ferrer (Connecticut) had both Schooners hits.

North Shore heads to Newport to face the Gulls (27-13) today at 6:35 p.m. while Mystic has an off day before hosting the Sharks (25-14) at noon on Thursday.

Winnipesaukee Muskrats 9 - Vermont Mountaineers 2

Montpelier Recreation Field in Vermont - The Winnipesaukee Muskrats (18-21) kept its playoff hopes alive with a win over the Vermont Mountaineers (30-11). The game started as a pitcher's duel with Winnipesaukee's Adam Maher (UMass Dartmouth) and Vermont's Aaron Dona (St Thomas Aquinas) each going 5.2 shutout innings. The scoring began in the sixth when Mark Trotta (William and Mary) hit a sac fly to give the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead. From there, the Muskrats completely took over.

The game was tied in the seventh after Ian Battipaglia (Franklin Pierce) hit an RBI single. Winnipesaukee then scored five in the eighth thanks to a fielder's choice by Tyler Grodell (Mt St Marys), a pair of RBI singles from Jack Thorbahn (Northeastern) and Battipaglia, as well as two errors to bring in runs. The Muskrats tacked on three more in the ninth on a Brady Day double (Kansas State), a Randy Flores triple (Stony Brook) and a Thorbahn single. Vermont added one more in the ninth on a Tyler Wells (New Haven) sac fly, but Winnipesaukee took home the victory.

The Muskrats will head to Maine to face the Sanford Mainers Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The Mountaineers have now lost five in a row, and they will look to turn things around as they take on the Upper Valley Nighthawks at home on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Martha's Vineyard Sharks 6 - Newport Gulls 5

Vineyard Baseball Park in Oak Bluffs, M.A. - The Martha's Vineyard Sharks (26-14) moved within half a game of the Coastal Division lead with a win over the Newport Gulls (27-14).

The Sharks got on the board early after Michael Snyder (Washington) drove in the game's first run on a sac fly in the first. After that, Vineyard's Rafe Schlesinger (Miami) and Newport's Josh Grosz (East Carolina) shut down on the mound until Newport struck in the fifth.

The Gulls took the lead on a two-run home run from Bryan Broecker (Michigan State), but they were one upped in the bottom of the inning after Snyder's three run home run made it 4-2. The Sharks held the lead until the seventh, when a solo home run from Alec Makarewicz (East Carolina) and a two-run homer from Trent Farquar (Michigan State) put the Gulls up 5-4.

The Sharks responded in the bottom of the inning when Danny Crossen (Northeastern) tied the game on a wild pitch, and Cabot Maher's (Villanova) RBI single gave Martha's Vineyard the lead. From there, Alejandro Torres (Miami) and Camron Hill shut it down to give the Sharks a much-needed win.

The Sharks will head to Rhode Island to take on the Ocean State Waves Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The Gulls will return to Cardines Field to face the North Shore Navigators at 6:35 p.m.
