Mainers Shut Out In Playoff Opener

Lynn, MA - The Sanford Mainers lost the opening game of the 2011 NECBL playoffs on the road, falling 8-0 to the North Shore Navigators. The Mainers face elimination in the best-of-three series on Thursday at Goodall Park.

The first run of the game came across in the first for North Shore. Matt McGovern walked and advanced to third on an Eric Jagielo double. Dario Pizzano hit a sacrifice fly to center to score McGovern and make it 1-0 Navigators.

The North Shore lead grew in the second inning. Matt Boulter and Chase Harrison walked before Saulyer Saxon singled to load the bases. McGovern hit a sacrifice fly to score one run before Clinton Harwick singled home another one to make it 3-0 North Shore.

The Navigators kept the runs coming in the fourth. With two outs Harwick was hit by a pitch and stole second base. Jagielo walked before Pizzano doubled off the wall in right center to score both runners and make it 5-0 Navs.

Three more runs came across in the sixth for North Shore, while the Navigators bullpen kept Sanford off the board for the 8-0 final.
