
Mainers Season Ends In Laconia

Laconia, NH - The Sanford Mainers fell in a back and forth ballgame on Sunday, losing 8-7 to the Laconia Muskrats in Laconia. The loss completed the sweep for the Muskrats in the NECBL Eastern Division Finals, propelling them to the NECBL Championship series against either Keene or Holyoke.
The Mainers got out to an early lead, plating three in the first. Marlon Calbi and Brett Mollenhauer singled to start the inning before Justin Leisenheimer singled to load the bases. Mike Montville flew out in foul territory to score Calbi for the first run. The play also advanced Mollenhauer and Leisenheimer on the bases. Jack Lupo singled to center to score two more and make it 3-0 Sanford after their first trip to the plate.
The Muskrats answered in their half of the first with a run. John Ziznewski singled and advanced to third on a Bijon Rademacher double. Chris Costantino grounded out to shortstop to score Ziznewski and make it a 3-1 game after an inning.
Sanford added to their lead in the fourth. Lupo led off and doubled down the line in left before advancing to third on a Pat Devlin groundout. With the infield drawn in Paul Kronenfeld singled to right to score Lupo and make it 4-1 Mainers.
Laconia utilized the long ball in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut into the Mainer lead. Costantino doubled and scored on a Dylan Kelly blast to make it a one-run game, with Sanford leading 4-3.
In the sixth home runs came into play again for the Muskrats. Costantino hit a solo shot to left to tie the game at 4-4. Kelly followed with a walk and scored on a Regan Flaherty home run over the scoreboard in right to give Laconia a 6-4 lead.
Sanford answered in the seventh. Mollenhauer was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on an error that allowed Leisenheimer to reach first. A fielder's choice saw Leisenheimer retired at second, but it advanced Mollenhauer to third and allowed Montville to reach first. Lupo singled to score Mollenhauer before Devlin singled to load the bases. A balk forced in Montville to tie the game 6-6. Matt Verrier put runners on the corners when he reached on a fielder's choice that saw Lupo thrown out at home. Tim Panetta singled to score Devlin and make it 7-6 Mainers.
The Muskrats took the lead back in the bottom of the seventh. Kevin Mortimer walked and advanced to third on a Ziznewski double. Rademacher dropped a bloop single into left field to score both runners and make it 8-7 Laconia.
The Mainers got a pair of runners on base in the ninth, but William Prince kept them off the board to preserve the Laconia victory.
