Sanford Mainers News Release
SANFORD, Me. - The Mainers returned to Goodall Park hoping to give them a nice boost after a tough loss the night before, unfortunately, the North Adams pitchers had other plans. The SteepleCats worked out of multiple jams to get their third-straight win, 2-0.
It was a pitcher's duel from the jump, Kyle Magrans (Vanderbilt) started for the second time this year for the season and he was dealing.
However, the SteepleCats found a way to break through in the third, when Tyler Epstein (Nova Southeastern) started with a leadoff single. He quickly worked his way to third on a pair of wild pitches, then with two outs Ryan Galanie (Wofford) ripped a base hit to score Epstein, 1-0.
Magrans would bow out after six innings, finishing with five strikeouts, with the lone blemish coming in the third.
Cooper Omans (Nova Southeastern) started for North Adams and he enjoyed six shutouts innings before handing it off to Austin McKinney (Pacific) for the seventh.
After more scoreless baseball, the SteepleCats tacked on another in the eighth when Hunter Pasqualini (Central Connecticut State) grounded to third, but the throw by David Bermudez (Manhattan) went off target to Marco Castillo at first and Scott Jones (Butler) legged it out from first to home, 2-0.
The Mainers once again had chances including having the bases loaded in the fourth, and had runners on the sixth, seventh, and eighth, but ultimately couldn't capitalize.
Will Hearn (San Francisco) replaced McKinney, and pitched flawlessly in the final two innings, allowing no runs on one hit, giving North Adams the win and picking up his second save of the year.
Despite all the struggles, Adam Dapkewicz (Georgetown) was patient at the plate and it resulted in him reaching base safely every time he got up, he ended with two singles and two walks.
The loss puts Sanford on a four-game skid and 1-9 overall on the year, meanwhile, North Adams picked up their third straight win.
The Mainers travel to New Hampshire for a Saturday matchup with Keene, before returning to Goodall on Sunday to wrap up the second week of the season against the Swamp Bats.
Jacob Marshall (Le Moyne) is the expected starter for tomorrow with the first pitch coming at 6:30 p.m from Alumni Field.
