Sanford Mainers News Release

SANFORD, Maine - With the 2024 New England Collegiate Baseball League season approaching, commissioner Sean McGrath and the league office released its 44-game regular season schedule on Sunday. Sanford's 23rd season runs from Tuesday, June 4 through Tuesday, July 30.

For the second consecutive season, the Mainers open on the road against a North Division opponent as they travel to Montpelier Recreation Field to take on the Vermont Mountaineers. It'll be the first time since a four-season stretch spanning from 2014 to 2017 that the Mainers open back-to-back years away from Goodall Park.

After staying on the road to play Valley on Wednesday, June 5, the Moose will occupy the third-base dugout of Goodall Park for the first time on Thursday, June 6 when they host the Mystic Schooners. The Mainers swept the Schooners in the first round of the 2023 New England League Postseason with the series-clinching game being played in Maine.

The green and yellow's seven games in seven days stretch to start the season continues when it plays host to its second North Division opponent of the season, Upper Valley, the following day. Just under a week later, following their first of 12 off days, the Mainers travel to Alumni Field to face the Keene SwampBats, the third and final divisional foe, on Wednesday, June 12 to wrap up a stint of six of eight games on the road.

Sanford's 2024 campaign also includes three match-ups with the Bristol Blues, who knocked the Mainers out of the postseason a year ago. The first of the meetings takes place in Sanford on Saturday, June 22. One week later, the Mainers travel to Muzzy Field, the venue of the 2024 NECBL All-Star Game, which is set to take place on Sunday, July 21.

The Mainers finish with eight of their final 12 games being played at Goodall Park including one of the two meetings with the owners of the 2023 Fay Vincent Sr. Cup, the Newport Gulls. For Sanford, it all concludes on the road against Keene on July 30, two days prior to the beginning of the 2024 New England League Postseason.

Sanford concluded the 2023 season with a 24-19 record, its best since the 2018 season. Head coach Nic Lops is set to return for his fourth season at the helm for the Mainers alongside assistants Tim Moreau, who will be in his second season, and Jeff Heinz.
