Maine Uses Outside Shooting to Claw Past Legends

PORTLAND, ME, (Dec. 31, 2014) - The Legends traveled to Maine to take on the first-place Red Claws in the final game of 2014. After back-to-back offensive wins, the Legends were unable to match the Red Claws' outside shooting, falling 106-122.

Veteran Mike James got off to a quick start with 15 points, shooting 6 of 9 in the first. The Legends' scoring was capped off by Damion James and Eric Griffin combining for 13 and the Red Claws took an early lead 34-28. The second quarter saw more movement from the Texas bench as six players grabbed baskets and Renaldo Balkman came in to add 16 points, 8 rebounds. Shooting 54% and out-rebounding Maine, the Legends took a 64-62 advantage into halftime.

After an offensive showcase in the first half, the Legends were stifled immediately coming out of the locker room. Maine held Texas to 18 points in the third as the Legends shot 23% to the Red Claws' 54%. Maine's lead increased in the fourth to as much as 21 and the Legends were unable to forge a comeback. Griffin led the efforts, pounding out 10 in the final minutes, but the Red Claws held control to improve to 13-3 on the season.

Griffin led the Legends with 22 points while Damion James (21 points, 10 rebounds) and Balkman (20 points, 13 rebounds) each added double-doubles.

The Red Claws had eight players in double-digits but were led in scoring by James Young with 25. Tony Frazier had a game-high 14 assists to top the Legends' team total of 9.

The Legends will travel to Austin next to take on the Spurs at 7:30 pm on Jan. 2nd before returning home to host the Oklahoma City Blue on Jan. 3rd at 7pm. Both games will be broadcast live online at www.texlegends.com.
