Maine Celtics News Release
PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Celtics today announced they hosting "Cancer Awareness Night" presented by The Dunham Group at tonight's regular season finale.
"Cancer is something that impacts all of us," said Maine Celtics President Dajuan Eubanks. "One in three Mainers will receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, and it is the leading cause of death in Maine. We are happy to do our part to help bring awareness to the battle against all forms of this disease."
The team will wear special themed uniforms for tonight's game against Westchester. The uniforms feature a purple ribbon to represent cancer awareness. The uniforms also highlight the night's Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation beneficiary, the Maine Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit which leads a state-wide effort to promote and support the most promising and effective cancer-fighting programs available to the people of Maine.
"Thursday night is about our Maine communities," said Ray Ruby, Executive Director of the Maine Cancer Foundation. "Our incidence and mortality rates are higher than the national average and have been for years. However, we've been closing that gap for the last 20 years because Mainers have answered the call. There's always more work to be done, which is why we are honored to team up with the Maine Celtics and The Dunham Group to raise awareness and continue striving toward a healthier tomorrow."
"The Dunham Group is honored to support Cancer Awareness Night and to promote the Maine Cancer Foundation's three pillars: prevention, early detection, and access to care," said Justin Lamontagne, a partner at the Dunham Group. "Our brokers' values shape the way we do business and the relationships we've built have fueled the firm for almost 50 years, and this event is no different. Partnering with the Maine Celtics and the Maine Cancer Foundation has been one of the most rewarding and fun experiences of my professional career."
During the game, cancer survivors and Maine Cancer Foundation support group members will be recognized on-court. Addison Kelleher, a 10-year-old Lisbon Falls resident who has been recognized for her work in bringing awareness to breast cancer, has been named Honorary Captain for the game.
Limited tickets for tonight's game are still available and can be purchased by visiting MaineCeltics.com.
