Maine Celtics News Release
PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws (9-17) fell into an early hole, giving the visiting Reno Bighorns (13-12) an early 20 point lead and what appeared to be an easy victory. Maine battled back all night, closing the gap and even taking a brief lead, only to see the Bighorns squeak out the victory, 105-102.
The Reno Bighorns' Andre Emmett was a big part of Reno's early dominance, picking up 24 points in the first half and finishing with 31 on the night. Blake Ahearn continued to show why he is the current league scoring leader, adding 26 points to his season tally while going a perfect 3-for-3 from the line to extend his league record streak to 106 consecutive free throws. Bobby Simmons finished the Red Claws off in the second half, picking up where Emmett started with 22 points. Emmett finished the night with a double-double, adding 11 rebounds.
Maine's Morris Almond, the Adidas Player of the Game, led the scoring for the home team with 26 points as he continued to show Crustacean Nation why he is a two-time league scoring champion. Jerome Randle (23 pts) scored 13 points in the fourth with 8 assists on the night, leading a Red Claws' fourth quarter comeback that fell just short. Randle's night was marred by 7 of Maine's 17 turnovers. Lawrence Hill, Friday's hero with his last second 3-pointer to give Maine the victory over Idaho, matched Simmons' 11 rebounds on the night and added 15 points for the double-double.
PAUL HARRIS, MAINE RED CLAWS: The Red Claws activated forward Paul Harris prior to the game, bringing the team's roster to 10. Harris had been sidelined with a back injury. Harris saw limited action, going 1-for-3 in 6:59 minutes played.
BLAKE AHEARN, RENO BIGHORNS: Blake Ahearn entered the game with 103 consecutive free throws, an NBA Development League record. He continued his streak, going 3-for-3 from the line tonight to extend that record-setting mark to 106. Ahearn held the previous league mark of 79 and has now eclipsed the NBA record of 97, set by Michael Williams (Minnesota, 1993). The all-time US pro mark is 138, set by John Wooden of the Indianapolis Kautzkys in 1936.
