Magic Snap Drive's Three-Game Win Streak

November 28, 2018 - NBA G League (G League)
Grand Rapids Drive News Release

GRAND RAPIDS - The Lakeland Magic (3-6) defeated the Grand Rapids Drive (5-4) on the road Wednesday night by a 109-94 final, largely due to outscoring the Drive 58-32 in the middle two quarters. The Magic picked up their second win in three tries, ending the Drive's three-game win streak in the process.

Gabe York served as the main offensive fulcrum for the Magic, scoring 29 points, a new career high in the G-League, and going 5-of-9 from three-point range. Amile Jefferson provided a big double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds, and BJ Johnson had 16 points and seven rebounds off the bench, also finishing with the best plus-minus of the day at plus-17. Lakeland had 43 bench points as Antonio Campbell and Jeremiah Hill each scored in double figures off the bench as well.

For the Drive, Scottie Lindsey also set a new G-League career high with 24 points, leading the Drive in scoring for the first time this season. Zach Lofton returned to the Drive lineup and scored 16 points off the bench, and fellow two-way player Keenan Evans chipped in 15 points of his own.

The Magic started the game slowly, as the Drive scored the game's first seven points and jumped out to a 20-7 lead. However, this would be their biggest lead of the game.

Lakeland's defense was outstanding in the third quarter, holding the Drive to easily their season low with 11 points in that quarter, including 4-of-21 shooting from the floor. Grand Rapids missed all 12 of their three-point attempts in the third quarter and the Magic stretched their lead to as many as 25 points. The Drive were able to narrow the gap somewhat but not seriously threaten Lakeland's chances of victory.

Three-point struggles were a theme for both teams. The Drive got up 41 attempts but hit just 10, and outside of York and Campbell the Magic were just 1-of-18 from deep. The Magic, however, shot 61 percent on two-pointers and raised their team field goal percentage up to 49 percent while the Drive shot under 40 percent from the floor for the third time this season.

The two teams will have a rematch for their next game, also at the DeltaPlex on Friday night.
