The Minotauros reclaimed the Central Division lead with an impressive showing against the Midwest Division's second place team the Minnesota Magicians. With an 11 goal outburst over the two game sweep the Tauros showed that last Saturday's shutout loss to Aberdeen was just a blip on the radar. Eight different Tauros found the back of the net and 12 in total recorded at least one point while Atte Tolvanen made 38 saves while picking up two wins against his former team.
Friday night the Tauros took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to Luke Davison's first goal of the season. Kris McKinzie tied it early in the second period but less than five minute later John Snodgrass restored the Tauros lead. It appeared that the Tauros had broken the game wide open when Jon Lizotte and Jake Howie score just 1:34 apart late in the second, followed by another Howie goal early in the third pushing the Tauro lead to 5-1. Brandon Loven scored to make it 5-2, but then Howie scored again recording the Tauros third ever hat trick and pushing the lead to 6-2. A late Magicians goal would make it 6-3 but that was as close as Minnesota would get.
Just as they did the night before the Tauros took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission on Saturday. This time it was Alexander Kasitsyn who scored his second of the season to start the Tauros' offense. Then in the second with the Tauros on the power play Christian Mohs netted his seventh of the year to double the Tauros' lead. For the second night in a row, Jon Lizotte scored the Tauros third of the night, this time just 0:18 into the third. Chase Spingman picked up his fourth assist on the weekend on Jon Lizotte's goal. Blake Lizotte then pushed the Tauros lead to 4-0 at the 10:14 mark of the final frame. Spencer Kuhlman broke Tolvanen's shutout bid at 11:47, then Casey Johnson and Matt Colford traded goals to push the final to 5-2 Tauros.
The two wins improve the Tauros to 11-5-2, and was a strong response after a disappointing 1-1-1 showing last weekend. The Tauros will stay busy this week with three home games; first hosting the Aberdeen Wings on Tuesday followed by the Minnesota Wilderness coming to town for a pair on Friday and Saturday nights.
