Burlington Bees News Release
Burlington, IA (July 4, 2005) - For the second time in two days, the Kansas City Royals have promoted a Burlington Bees player. OF/IF Pete Maestrales will join the High Desert Mavericks in the California League today after RHP Greg Atencio left yesterday. Neither player has been replaced, dropping the Bees active roster to 23.
Maestrales wasn't a Bee for very long. He joined the club on June 11th after the Royals acquired him along with cash from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for Major League OF Eli Marrero. In 16 games with the Bees, Maestrales hit .316 with three doubles, a triple, and six RBI while walking ten times and striking out just nine. He started games at second base, third base, left field, and as the designated hitter in his short time here. Last night, Maestrales served the final game of a three-game suspension from the Midwest League for charging the mound and starting a bench-clearing brawl against Beloit on Friday, June 24th. Maestrales was hitting .301 with 8 home runs and 16 RBI with Delmarva in the South Atlantic League before the trade. He was named to the SAL All-Star Team, but didn't get to participate.
The Bees will host the South Bend Silver Hawks at 7:00 tonight at Community Field. RH Patrick Hicklen (4-3, 3.72) will start for the Bees against LH Kellen Raab (2-2, 4.74). The gates will open at 6:00. Tonight is NOT a Miller Lite Dollar Monday, but there will be a fabulous fireworks show following the game sponsored by Deery Brothers, J&M Displays, and Clear Channel Radio Stations KBUR, The Ticket 1360 KBKB, The Mix 107.3, and 101.7 The Bull. This is the start of a four-game series. Thursday night, the Bees will give away a set of the 2005 team baseball card set sponsored by Happy Joe's, Chevrolet, and Omni Photography.
