GAME OF THE WEEK: Swing 4, Silver Hawks 3

The top two teams in the Midwest League since the All-Star break went toe-to-toe this past weekend, splitting four games and staying atop their respective divisions. The Swing pounded South Bend, 16-8, in the opener before the Silver Hawks struck back with a 10-7 win on Friday night. But the Swing came back and won a tense contest on Saturday night, as Matt Shepherd singled home Nick Stavinoha in the top of the ninth inning and then turned a game-ending double play in the bottom half of the game to seal the win for the Swing. With the win, Quad Cities moved to 8-2 since the All-Star break, mirroring their 2-8 start to open the season. Matt Lemanczyk bolstered the Swing in his first start in a week, while Phillip Andersen got no decision but threw well for the Swing.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Nick Stavinoha

A seventh-round pick out of LSU, Nick Stavinoha started his professional career on an incredible hot streak and is the Swing's Player of the Week. In two years at LSU, the outfielder/designated hitter had a .348 batting average and 26 home runs, earning Second Team All-SEC honors in 2005 and twice being named to the conference's Academic Honor Roll. While the conversion to hitting with a wood bat is often a problem for players in their first year out of college, it's been no issue for Stavinoha. The slugger went 12-for-22 (.545) on the week, blasting his first professional home run on Tuesday against Wisconsin All-Star Craig James, and adding another against South Bend's Koley Kolberg on Sunday.
