Indiana Mad Ants News Release
Earl Calloway lead the Fort Wayne Mad Ants with 33 points to defeat the Colorado 14ers, 118-111, at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. With the victory, the Mad Ants ended a five game losing streak and gave new Head Coach Jaren Jackson his first win.
It was a neck and neck battle all game with 10 ties and 18 lead changes. With three minutes left in the game, the Mad Ants were up 110-102, but the 14ers battled back to come within in 1 with only one minute remaining. With a final push, the Mad Ants were able to outlast the 14ers, hitting 6 of 6 from the charity stripe in the last thirty seconds.
The 14ers out rebounded the Mad Ants by 16 but had no answer for the home team's impressive 54.7 shooting percentage. Shooting especially well for the Mad Ants was Corey Minnifield, who did not miss a shot all night and finished with 21. He was 8 for 8 from the floor, hit his one attempted three pointer, and made all 4 of his free throws.
Also shooting well for the Mad Ants were Calloway, who shot 73% from the floor and hit 10 of 10 free throws to finish with 33, and Larry Turner, who went 7 for 8 from the floor on his way to 17.
The 14er's Elton Brown recorded a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Former Mr. Basketball in Indiana, Justin Cage, finished with 17 points and 6 rebounds.
The Mad Ants completed the series between these two teams with a clean sweep after beating the 14ers once in Colorado on January 8th. The Mad Ants improve their record to 10-17 while the 14ers drop to 15-13.
