Macon Takes Series Opener

July 19, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
South Georgia Peanuts News Release

The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, lost the opening game of the "Peach Series Presented by Fairchild Roofing" 5-2 on Thursday night. With the loss, the Peanuts are still winless at Luther Williams field in Macon.

The game started well for the Peanuts. In the top of the second, Doc Brooks led off by hitting a solo homerun to give the Peanuts the first lead of the game. Curtis Goodwin Sr. went on to single, steal second and advance to third on an error before he was singled home by Johnny Washington to give the Peanuts a 2-0 lead. Those would be the only runs that the Peanuts would put across on the night.

The Music hit three home runs which accounted for five of the seven runs the team scored. K.J. Hendricks, Dorian Rojas and Casey Garrison were the three Macon baseball players to hit the long ball.

Shannon Wirth took the loss, which is his first of the season. He pitched six innings allowing three runs on five hits. Jake Upwood pitched an inning without allowing a run but had to leave due to injury. Jared Doyle pitched one inning and allowed two unearned runs.

Brooks was the only Peanut to have more than one hit on the night. In all, the Peanuts only mustered seven hits on the night.

The Peanuts will try to even the series with Macon on Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:05. The game can be heard in South Georgia on "1450 The Fan" and online at southgeorgiapeanuts.com
