Aiken Foxhounds News Release

AIKEN, S.C. - In the first game of a rare afternoon doubleheader at Roberto Hernandez Stadium, the Aiken Foxhounds (26-28, 4-5) rode the arm of pitcher Steve Dunham, who did not allow an earned run in six innings, to a 3-1 victory over the Bradenton Juice (30-23, 6-3). The afternoon's games, originally scheduled to be played in Bradenton, Fla., were moved to Aiken and changed to two seven-inning games with the Juice serving as the home team.

The Juice put a run on the board first, scoring in the bottom of the second on a wild play. With one out, Willie James reached on error and pitcher Luke Palmer walked. Julius Thames singled to drive in James and move Palmer to third. On the throw to third, Thames was thrown out as he attempted to take second base. Meanwhile, Palmer tried to score but was gunned down in a collision at the plate to end the inning.

Palmer cruised through the first three innings before running into trouble in the top of the fourth. Chad Miller led off with a single to left and scored on a two-out RBI single by Tim Sweeney to tie the game.

The 'Hounds took the lead in the top of the fifth with a pair of runs. Aiken loaded the bases with getting the ball out of the infield on a walk, a hit by pitch, and a bunt single. Tony Harper then hit a potential double play ball to short, but the throw to first by second baseman Julius Thames flew over Eddie Kim's head allowing a second run to score.

Dunham (5-5) got his second win in a row in a starter's role, allowing just one unearned run on four hits while walking four and striking out four in six innings. A.J. Montano worked a perfect ninth for his sixth save of the season.

Garth McKinney and Tim Sweeney each had two hits in the game for the Foxhounds while Sweeney and Harper drove in the only runs. Thames went 2-for-3 for the Juice.
