Aiken Foxhounds News Release

AIKEN, S.C. - Tim Drew beat the Bradenton Juice for the second straight start, and the Aiken Foxhounds (27-28, 5-5) drilled five home runs to take the second game of a doubleheader 12-3 at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The 'Hounds took game one earlier in the day 3-1. The afternoon's games, originally scheduled to be played in Bradenton, Fla., were moved to Aiken and changed to two seven-inning games with the Juice serving as the home team.

Playing as the visitors, Aiken wasted little time jumping out in front. With two outs, Chad Miller tripled down the right-field line and scored on an RBI single off of Kelly Hunt's bat.

Against Bradenton starter Pat Ford, the Foxhounds plated another run in the top of the second. Leading off the frame, shortstop Tim Sweeney hit the first pitch he saw over the fence in right field for his third home run of the season.

The 'Hounds blew the game wide open in the top of the fourth. With one out, catcher Josh Eachues drilled a solo home run to left-center field to make it 3-0. For the switch-hitter, the home run was his second of the season and first from the right side.

Will Gonzalez struck out following Eachues, but reached first when the pitch got by the catcher. After a Gonzalez stole second, Scott Houin drove him in with a single to left and reached second on the throw home. Houin scored as Garth McKinney reached on an error. After a McKinney steal, Miller hit an RBI single to make it 6-0.

After three scoreless innings, Drew allowed a run in the bottom of the fourth when Al Corbeil drilled his eighth home run of the season to right field.

Drew (4-3) put two more zeros on the scoreboard after the fourth, and finished his night allowing just one run on three hits in six innings while walking one and striking out two.

Aiken continued to pound out hits and score runs in the late innings. In the sixth, McKinney blasted his 10th home run of the season, a two-run shot to right-center, and Kelly Hunt hit his league-leading 14 th homer of the season to deep left field to make it a 9-1 game.

Houin decided to get into the home run derby in the top of the seventh inning. With two on, the Foxhounds' leadoff hitter took a 0-2 pitch the other way for a three-run shot, his fifth of the season.

Bradenton plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh off of Aiken reliever Brian Grijalva for the final margin.

After taking the first game off, Hunt returned to the lineup with a 3-for-5 game that included a run scored and two RBI. Houin went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and four driven. Bradley Key and Chad Miller both collected two hits as the Foxhounds had 14 hits in the game.

Aiken will look for their first sweep since taking three games from the Macon Music May 28-30 when they host Bradenton for another afternoon start on Friday. First pitch is slated for 2:05 PM.
