LAST WEEK:
FRI Nov. 12 TRAX @ Asheville (8-3 loss) 7:05 p.m. Asheville Civic Center
The Trax went into Asheville for the first time in their history and would like to forget the experience. The Aces took control of the Trax early and never let up until the final horn sounded.
Janis Tomas led the way for the home team with two goals and two assists. Asheville had seven different players score their eight goals.
The Trax had troubles all night staying at full strength. Half of the Aces goals came on the power play as Asheville went 4-12 overall with the man advantage.
Fans in Asheville were treated to a line brawl near the end of the game. After the Aces scored their sixth goal bedlam arose at the Civic Center. All ten players on the ice dropped the gloves and fought. In addition, an unruly fan in Asheville tossed beer on the Trax bench. After the referee sorted out the mess, 154 penalty minutes were doled out for this one incident. Overall the game set a league record with 326 penalty minutes.
SAT Nov. 13 TRAX @ Huntsville (4-3 OT WIN) 7:35 p.m (CST) Von Braun Center
The Trax were down for most of the game but ended up on top when it counted, in the end. Macon defeated Huntsville 3-2 behind Steve Zoryk's overtime goal.
David Deeves carried the puck into the zone where he found a streaking Zoryk heading to the net. Zoryk was able to get his stick on it and tip it over goalie Adam MacLean's shoulder. Zoryk earned the number one star on the night as he scored not only the last Trax goal but the first of the night, in the first period.
Head Coach Tommy Stewart called a time out with 1:42 to go in the third period to regroup his troops. The Trax came back out on the ice with six attackers and their net empty.
Three won face-offs later, John Gurskis found the back of the net to tie the game at three, eventually sending it to overtime.
The Trax will head back to the practice ice before a busy weekend. Macon will visit Knoxville Friday for a 7pm face-off.
Then the Trax will open their home schedule Saturday, Nov. 20 against Columbus. It will be at big night at the Centreplex as Burger King will be on hand to give fans magnet schedules and it is "Guaranteed Win Night." If the Trax don't win fans will receive free tickets to the following home game.
Tickets for all Trax games, which start as low as $6, can be bought by calling 478-742-4849 or on the web at www.ticketmaster.com. Come out to the Centreplex Nov. 20 to see why Trax hockey is more fun than makin' whoopee.
