The Asheville Aces complete their third week of the SPHL season with a pair of wins over Macon on Friday, 8-3 and Fayetteville on Saturday, 3-2 in sudden death overtime. The Aces have now won three in a row and their record is 4-2, 2nd in the league behind Jacksonville who is undefeated at 5-0.

Friday night, the Aces blitzed Macon 8-3 in a wild fight-filled game that saw both teams amass 336 penalty minutes, 276 in the 3rd period. The Aces never trailed in the game as the team got goals from Janis Tomans (2), Jarno Mensonen, Dan Beland, Chris Ferguson, Peter Cermak and Peter Bournazakis. Mark Scally was a beacon between the pipes for Asheville as he stopped 33 of 36. "The game would have been a lot closer if it wasn't for the goaltending," said Coach Brubaker.

Saturday night, the Aces faces Fayetteville for the second time this season. The Aces fell behind 2-0 before Martin Viazanica scored with 0:35 seconds left in the 2nd period. Dan Beland tied the score at 4:01 in the 3rd. In the sudden death overtime period, Brent Rumble took a 2-minute penalty for goalie interference. The Aces capitalized on the power play at 2:50 with a goal from Janis Tomans.

This week, the Aces face the Winston-Salem Polar Twins on Friday, then on Saturday, the Huntsville Havoc come into town for the first time. Both games are set for 7:30 at the Asheville Civic Center. Winston-Salem comes into Friday's game with a 2-5 record and is 8th in the league. Huntsville is 3-3 and is tied for 3rd.
