'Mac Attack' is back: McNeil remains with IceGators

Lafayette, LA – The Louisiana IceGators have re-signed left wing Shawn McNeil to a standard player contract for the 2002-03 season, team director of hockey operations and head coach Dave Farrish announced today. The 24-year-old McNeil, who is the first IceGator to sign for the upcoming season, will enter his fourth campaign with Louisiana.

The Cold Lake, Alberta, native has played in 205 career professional games 202 with the IceGators – and has racked up 207 points (94g, 113a) and 188 penalty minutes in that span. Last season, the 6-foot, 200-pound McNeil had 72 points (32g, 40a) and 88 penalty minutes in 68 regular-season games with the IceGators. McNeil, who was third on the team in points and goals, added two assists in three post-season contests. McNeil also played one game last season with AHL Cincinnati. McNeil's most prolific season was in the 2000-01 campaign, when he recorded 81 points (36g, 45a) in 72 games. The winger has also proven to be proficient in the playoffs, notching 43 points (18g, 25a) in 36 contests.

"Shawn McNeil has proven himself to be one of the top young scorers in the East Coast Hockey League," said Farrish. "He has amazing offensive skills and has continued to work hard this summer. We expect him to be a force for us as always this season. Shawn also has made his presence felt in the community."

Last season, McNeil visited Iberia Parish Schools as part of the Nickel Harvest reward program, helped sell bears that went towards the IceGators' Toys for Tots Teddy Bear Toss, and this summer he worked at a bone marrow tissue typing drive at Acadiana Mall.

McNeil is seventh on the IceGators' all-time assist list with 113, seventh on the point list with 207 points and sixth with 94 goals.
