Maalique Foster's Panenka Voted Play of the Year
Published on November 4, 2022 under United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release
"Big games are for big players," Maalique Foster once said. And in his second season with Sacramento, the Jamaican proved that he is made for big moments.
With a historic trip to the U.S. Open Cup Final at stake, Foster could have easily buckled in the spotlight when he stepped up to take his penalty in the semifinal shootout with Sporting Kansas City. But instead, he delivered the most memorable moment in this year's tournament.
The shot, the backflip, the broadcast call - Foster's Panenka from July 27 has been voted by the team as this year's Play of the Year.
