PEARL, MS-Mississippi outhit the BayBears 8-5, but Mobile hung on to defeat the Braves 4-2 for the seventh consecutive game at Trustmark Park.

With the win, Mobile improved to 30-24 on the season while the M-Braves fell to 21-33. Mobile had four runs on five hits and one error. Mississippi managed just two runs on eight hits and no errors.

Ryan Cook came on to work the final inning and 1/3, notching his third save of the season.

Ryan Wheeler doubled to lead off the second, and Marc Krauss walked. Both runners advanced after a Taylor Harbin fly out. Wheeler then came in to score on an Ed Easley groundout, and Krauss came home on a wild pitch to give the BayBears a 2-0 lead.

Tyler Pastornicky walked, stole second, and took third on an error by the catcher. Donell Linares then delivered a sacrifice fly to cut Mobile's lead to 2-1 in the fourth.

Ollie Linton then led off the top of the sixth with a solo home run to right field, making it a 3-1 game.

The Braves managed to put runners at the corners in the bottom of the eighth, but could not get any runs across.

J.J. Hoover (2-4) took the loss, giving up three earned runs on two hits, a home run, and two walks while fanning eight BayBears in six innings of work.

Right-hander Paul Clemens (4-1, 2.08) toes the rubber in the series finale Friday night where the M-Braves look to break the losing skid and prevent a five-game sweep by Mobile. Clemens will counter lefty Wade Miley (1-2, 7.30). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
