Mobile BayBears News Release

PEARL, Miss. - Ollie Linton and Paul Goldschmidt cracked timely home runs as the BayBears held off the Mississippi Braves for the fourth consecutive night with a 4-2 victory on Thursday at Trustmark Park.

Charles Brewer (4-1) tossed five-plus innings while limiting the Braves (21-33) to just four hits. He did have to leave the game with no outs in the sixth however, as Antoan Richardson lined a base hit up the middle off Brewer's right wrist.

Brewer was given a 2-0 advantage in the top of the second as the BayBears (30-24) scored twice with only one hit. Ryan Wheeler started the frame with a double over first while Marc Krauss walked to first against J.J. Hoover (2-4). A flyout to center pushed both runners up a base while Wheeler scored on a grounder to second off Ed Easley's bat. Hoover uncorked a wild pitch to bring Krauss home.

Mississippi drew closer in the fourth as Tyler Pastornicky walked, stole second and went to third on an Easley throwing error. Pastornicky scored on a sac fly from Donell Linares.

In the top of the sixth, Linton led off the frame by belting his third home run of the season to regenerate the BayBears' lead to two. Willie Cabrera singled home Richardson in the bottom of the sixth, but the Braves wouldn't get any closer.

Goldschmidt's minor-league leading 19th blast of the season to right gave the BayBears a 4-2 lead in the top of the eighth. Billy Spottiswood allowed a couple of men to reach in the home half, but Ryan Cook (S, 3) helped him through before working a scoreless ninth inning. Bryan Woodall was also solid out of the bullpen as he punched out all three hitters he faced.

The BayBears finish their five-game set with the Braves at Trustmark Park on Friday night at 7:05 as they look for the sweep. Lefty Wade Miley (1-2) counters right-hander Paul Clemens (4-1). The BayBears are back home on Saturday night against the Huntsville Stars at 7:05. For tickets, please call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
