The Augusta Lynx won their fifth straight contest in convincing fashion with a 4-1 victory over the Pensacola Ice Pilots Thursday night at the Pensacola Civic Center.

Dan Sullivan would net Augusta's first power play goal of the night for the opening frame's only marker at 18:37 from Ryan Lang and Nicolas Corbeil. Augusta (24-25-4) worked the puck around for several good shots on the advantage, finally denting the twine on a goalmouth Lang-to-Sullivan connection for the score.

An innocent-looking wrist shot from Chris Leinweber gave Augusta a two-goal advantage in the second stanza, as Pensacola goaltender David Cann misplayed the shot from the left wing boards as it squeaked past him just 35 seconds into the period.

The Ice Pilots (19-30-6) finally got on the board at 7:50 of the second period when Chris Heid fed the puck into the slot to a waiting Brendan Cook, who beat Wolfe blocker side to make it a 2-1 game. But the Lynx would strike power play goal once again, this time with Corbeil cashing in the rebound off a Martin Lapointe drive for a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.

Cann's rough night in the Ice Pilots net carried into the final frame, where Sam Ftorek scored on a tough angle backhand shot at the 4:21 mark to finish the scoring in the game and cement a 4-1 Lynx win.

Augusta finished the game 2-for-4 on the power play while Pensacola went 0-for-2. Jason Wolfe finished the night with 39 saves for his fifth straight win. Cann ended the evening with 30 stops in posting the loss.

With the victory, Augusta moves into sole possession of fifth place in the ECHL's Southern Division, two points ahead of the South Carolina Stingrays.

The Lynx get back to action on Saturday night in North Charleston, SC as they take on the Stingrays at 7 pm. Augusta's next home game will be on March 8 as they host the Ice Pilots in one of two key divisional matchups remaining against Pensacola.
