Lynx to Host Back to School Night on Friday, August 31

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx today announced that Friday's game against the Tulsa Shock will be Back to School Night presented by Deuce Brand. As part of the night, the Lynx are encouraging fans to bring in school supplies to donate to charity. The first 250 fans to bring in $10 worth of school supplies to the game, along with a receipt, will receive a free Deuce Brand watch.
As a part of Back to School Night, five players from the Minnesota Lynx went shopping on Monday with eight underprivileged youths, five from "Girls in Action" and three selected by the team, for new back to school clothes courtesy of Maurices. Taj McWilliams-Franklin, Devereaux Peters, Erin Thorn, Candice Wiggins and Monica Wright helped the kids pick out their clothes, and assisted in trying them on and finding the best outfits.
"Education is of the upmost importance in the development of children today," said Timberwolves and Lynx President Chris Wright. "It's incredibly important that kids have the tools they need to succeed in life at a young age, and Back to School Night is an opportunity for our organization to make a significant difference in the lives of underprivileged youth."
All school supplies collected at Friday's game will be donated to "be@school," a program sponsored by Hennepin County. "be@school" helps provide underprivileged youths who have shown signs of truancy with adult mentors, as well as school supplies and other necessary tools to succeed. The program is designed to improve school attendance, while helping to increase school readiness and self esteem for struggling students.
