Lynx to celebrate Police Week

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Lynx are pleased to announce they will be bringing Police Week 2005 to Lynx Stadium. The Lynx game on Tuesday, May 17th with the Charlotte Knights is being co-hosted by the Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness (PSEP), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Ottawa Police Services (OPS). Police Week will be celebrated across Canada from May 15-21st.

The event will showcase police work being undertaken every day in Canadian communities. RCMP Musical Ride members on horseback will be in attendance, alongside the OPS command post vehicle and tactical team in their bomb truck. For the younger fans, Simon the Safety Beaver – mascot for PSEP – and the Safety Bear – the RCMP's mascot – will be there with colouring books and temporary tattoos. The RCMP will also have their new Child ID kits on hand to give to parents.

Next week's event will also highlight a program that the Lynx and Ottawa Police Services have been working together on throughout the months of April and May. The initiative is a community-based ticket program that will see OPS personnel (Patrol Officers, Traffic Officers, the Ride Program, Community Police Centres, School Resource Officers, Information Desk Staff, and the Youth Office) distribute 50,000 ticket vouchers to young people in the Ottawa area who are practicing good habits and safety.
