Columbus Clippers News Release

Following the game last night reliever Charlie Issacson was transferred back to Double-A Trenton. Isaacson appeared in 7 games with Columbus and went 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA. Taking his place on the roster is RHP Jorge De Paula. De Paula was with Single-A Tampa where he was 0-2 with a 4.58 ERA in 4 starts. De Paula will be making his first appearance with Columbus since the 2003 season. That year he was 10-11 with a 4.35 ERA in 27 starts with the Clippers, including three complete games and two shutouts. He began last season with New York, making three appearances with one start, going 0-1 with a 5.00 ERA for the Yankees before landing on the disabled list and eventually had Tommy John surgery. De Paula will start today for Columbus. Also New York purchased the contract of Russ Johnson. Johnson was hitting .285 with 5 HR and 20 RBI in 31 games for Columbus. To take his spot on the roster Yobal Duenas has been transferred from Double-A Trenton. Duenas played in 13 games with Trenton, just 3 in the field where he batted .265 with 1 HR and 8 RBI.

Dueñas and pitcher Maels Rodriguez defected from the Cuban team in October of 2003. Yobal, who was primarily a second baseman on the island, was signed by the Yankees the following February. He is a former stolen base king in Cuba. His career Cuban league average is .321. Dueñas is a close friend of Jose Contreras and visited the Yankee pitcher's family many times after the Bronze Titan left Cuba.
