Ottawa Lynx News Release

The Ottawa Lynx sweep their doubleheader with the Buffalo Bisons by the scores of 3-2 and 7-4. Ottawa improves their record to 13-7 and sit in first place in the International League North Division, 1.5 games ahead of the Scranton/WB Red Barons.

Game 1

The Lynx jumped out to any early lead in game one. 2B Bernie Castro reached on an error, making it 13 of 14 games he has reached base leading off the game for Ottawa. Castro then stole second, and moved to third on Tim Raines Jr.'s bunt base hit. After the next two batters were retired, Tim Raines Jr. was picked off of first but in the ensuing rundown Castro raced home to score on what turned out to be a double steal. Buffalo was not long tying up the game, as Ernie Young led off the top of the second with a homer to right off of Lynx starter John Maine to even the score at 1-1. The game remained tied until the bottom of the 5th inning. SS Enrique Wilson got things started by collecting his first hit as a member of the Lynx, a liner to left. Catcher Eli Whiteside followed with his second homer of the year, a two-run shot putting Ottawa up 3-1. Buffalo got one run back in the top of the 6th, but that was as close as they would get. Jacobo Sequea recorded the final three outs to collect his 5th save in a 3-2 Lynx win.

Game 2

Ottawa came out with the bats blazing in the bottom of the 1st inning. With two outs, Walter Young reached on an error and came to score when Alejandro Freire doubled to right center. Freire then scored when Kris Wilken lined a single to center to put Ottawa up 2-1. After a Napoleon Calzado single put runners on the corners, Bisons pitcher Jeremy Guthrie threw away a pickoff attempt, scoring Wilken and moving Calzado to third. Enrique Wilson capped the scoring with a line drive double to right, scoring Calzado to put the Lynx up 4-0. Buffalo got a run back in the top of the 2nd when Ryan Garko homered off of James Baldwin to cut the lead to 4-1. The Lynx got that run back in the 2nd, as Alejandro Freire's RBI single to right scored Tim Raines Jr. to increase the Lynx lead to four. The Lynx increased their lead to 6-1 on back-to-back doubles by Enrique Wilson and Sal Fasano in the bottom of the third. After Buffalo got a run back in the 4th, Sal Fasano continued his hot night by blasting his 3rd homer of the season to left, putting the Lynx up 7-2.
