Minnesota Lynx News Release
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx tonight selected Mikiah Herbert Harrigan from South Carolina with the sixth overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft. This marks the second straight year the Lynx have held the number six pick, last year drafting Napheesa Collier, who became the third sixth overall pick to win Rookie of the Year (Temeka Johnson 2005, Betty Lennox 2000) and the lowest draft selection since Johnson in 2005 to win the award.
Herbert Harrigan, a 6-2 senior, played in 31 games (all starts) for the Gamecocks, averaging 13.1 ppg and a career-high 5.6 rpg. A 2017 NCAA National Champion, Herbert Harrigan joined Alaina Coates and A'ja Wilson as the only South Carolina players to amass 1,000 points and 200 blocks in their college careers. She sits second in school rankings for total blocks (210).
The Pembroke Pines, Florida native helped South Carolina to not only an NCAA Championship but two SEC regular season titles, three SEC Tournament championships and appearances in the 2019 Sweet 16 and the 2018 Elite Eight. The SEC Tournament MVP posted career highs in points (13.1), rebounds (5.6), field goal percentage (50.6), three-point percentage (43.5) and free throw percentage (83.5) in her final collegiate season.
Tonight marks the first time the Lynx have selected a player from South Carolina in the WNBA Draft and Herbert Harrigan becomes the 11th South Carolina player to be selected in the draft.
