Lynx Goaltender JP Levasseur Recalled By Anaheim Ducks

Augusta, GA - Augusta Lynx Head Coach Bob Ferguson announced today that goaltender JP Levasseur has been recalled by the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League, and will join the team in Dallas, Texas today for the remainder of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Dallas Stars currently lead the defending Stanley Cup Champion Ducks, 2 games to 1 in their best of seven Western Conference Quarterfinal Series. Game #4 is Thursday in Dallas. Levasseur, 21, was a 7th round draft pick of the Ducks in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He will serve as Anaheim's third goalie behind starter JS Giguere and back-up Jonas Hiller.

Ferguson also announced that forwards Matt Christie and Ryan Dingle, along with defenseman Adrian Veideman have been recalled by the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League. Portland is currently playing in the Atlantic Division Semi-Finals against the Hartford Wolfpack in the Calder Cup Playoffs. Portland dropped the first game of the best of seven series on Wednesday night. Game 2 will be in Hartford on Thursday. All three players have had at least two stints during the regular season with the Pirates.

Levasseur had a good rookie season for the Lynx. He appeared in 29 games for Augusta, posting a 2.99 goals against average and a 90.0% save percentage. Levassseur's final appearance of the season came in Wednesday night's decisive Game #5 as the Lynx fell to the South Carolina Stingrays in their South Division Quarterfinal series, 3 games to 2. Levasseur started in relief of goaltender Bobby Goepfert, who was unable to play. Levasseur played very well in his first pro playoff game, stopping 30 of 32 shots in a 3-1 loss for the Lynx, which ended their season.

Christie, lead the Lynx in scoring throughout the playoffs with six points in five games. During the regular season he finished 4th on the team in scoring with 41 points in 53 games played. Dingle, also had a very respectable rookie season scoring 27 points in 50 regular season games. In the playoffs he recorded one assist during the series with South Carolina. Veideman had a rookie season to remember. The 25-year-old from Sicamous, British Columbia was named to the 2007-08 ECHL All-Rookie Team and to the 2008 ECHL All-Star Game. He led all Lynx defenseman in scoring during the regular season with 40 points in 66 games played, and also during the playoffs recording three points.
