Toronto Lynx News Release
The Toronto Lynx renewed their rivalry with the Montreal Impact tonight in front of 6,831 fans at Montreal's Claude-Robillard Sports Complex. The teams felt each other out for the first 20 minutes, with neither conceding many goal scoring opportunities, before Canadian National team member Nevio Pizzolitto, playing his first match of the season due to injury, put the Impact in front after 25 minutes converting a freekick cross from Patrick Leduc. The Lynx equalized minutes later when Lynx striker and former Impact player, Ali Gerba's flick deflected off the post then Impact goalkeeper, Greg Sutton before finding the back of the net. The goal, credited as an own goal, was the first conceded in five games by the Impact this season. The equalizer seemed to give the Lynx some confidence and they took the play to the Impact for the remaining 20 minutes of a scrappy first half. Coming out of the break, the Impact again took a one goal lead after just minutes when Joel John Bailey headed home another freekick cross from Leduc. Mauricio Vincello gave the Impact at 2 goal lead with a volley from 25 yards out after 69 minutes in his first match against his former team. Despite several quality chances, the Lynx would get no closer as substitute Freddie Commodore added an insurance goal in extra time. The game finished 4-1 in favour of the Impact. "We played very well in the first half and were right in the game," said Lynx Head Coach, Duncan Wilde. "We gave away 3 goals off of free kicks and when that happens at this level it is tough to win. We will address some issues tonight and have another go at them tomorrow". The loss drops the Lynx record 2-4-0 on the season with the Impact improving to 4-0-1. The Lynx and Impact will hook up again tomorrow night in Toronto as the Lynx celebrate their annual Girl Power Night with a 6:00pm kickoff at Etobcoke's Centennial Park Stadium.
