August 24, 2009 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Lynchburg starting pitcher Matt McSwain has been named Carolina League Pitcher-of-the-Week for the week of August 17 through 23. McSwain tossed a seven-inning complete game shutout in game two of the Hillcats doubleheader with Winston-Salem on August 23. The right-hander limited the Dash to three hits and recorded six strikeouts in Lynchburg's 6-0 win.

McSwain's victory was the first complete game by a Lynchburg pitcher this season and his first complete game in a four-year professional career that began in 2006. He earned his 10th win of the season, becoming the first Hillcats hurler to reach double-digits in wins in 2009. McSwain is the second Hillcat to earn Carolina League Pitcher-of-the-Week honors this season, joining Rudy Owens, who garnered the award the week of August 3 through 9.

In 24 starts, McSwain is 10-8 with a 3.50 ERA in 136.1 IP. He is tied for second in the CL in wins and ranks seventh in the circuit in ERA. He also ranks second in the league in innings pitched and becomes the 14th pitcher in the league to pitch a complete game in 2009. No pitcher has pitched more than one complete game in the Carolina League.
