THE HILLCATS: Lost to the Frederick Keys 7-2 last night snapping a four-game wining streak...The game was scoreless through five innings...Hillcats starter RHP Jarett Miller then surrendered two runs in the sixth to the Keys...The Keys continued to add runs up to seven, including four in the ninth...CF Matt Lipka broke up the shutout of the Hillcats with a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth...The Hillcats lost the opening game of six at home, but still sit in first place in the Northern Division, one-half game ahead of Frederick...
VS. FREDERICK: The Hillcats are 1-3 against the Keys this season, losing their first series on the road in Frederick April 15-17...Lynchburg lost the first two, but avoided the sweep with a 7-1 win in the finale...Frederick or Lynchburg have been in first place since the start of the season...
FALL AFTER FOUR: The loss last night snapped the Hillcats winning streak at four games, which had matched their season-best streak...Lynchburg won four in a row April 6-10...Only two teams in the league have put together winning streaks of five or more this season...The Potomac Nationals won five straight May 8-12, and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans collected seven consecutive victories last week at home May 7-13...The streak started with three straight wins against the Hillcats...
BOUNCING BACK: RHP Jarett Miller went just one inning last Saturday in a start against the Carolina Mudcats...He gave up four runs on five hits, faced all nine batters and threw over 40 pitches...He did not come out for a second inning, and due to the short appearance, he came back to start again just three days later...He responded with five scoreless innings, before giving up two runs in the sixth...Despite throwing his first quality start, he took his first loss of the season, as the Hillcats lost 7-2...
POLAR OPPOSITES: With the first place Hillcats losing and the last place Wilmington Blue Rocks winning last night the Northern Division is separated top to bottom by just three games...Meanwhile, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans are enjoying plenty of breathing room down south...They're in first place by 5.5 games, and are 11 games up on the last place team in Carolina...Wilmington, in last place in the North, is just a half game worse the the second place team in the Southern Division...
SITTING HEFFLINGER: OF Robby Hefflinger was not in the lineup last night for the first time this season...He started each of the Hillcats first 35 games of the season, and batted fourth in every game...Hefflinger is only outlasted by Potomac Nationals SS Jason Martinson who has started the first 38 games of the season for his club...Hefflinger is hitting .293 with eight home runs, and 26 RBI so far this season...Currently ranks among the leaders in average (8th), home runs (2nd), RBI (T-2nd), slugging percentage (.550, 3rd), and extra-base hits (19, 2nd)...
NATE THE SAME HYATT: RHP Nate Hyatt gave up one runs in his first outing of the season April 6...Then turned in 13 consecutive scoreless innings...He finished each of the first 11 games he appeared in, whether he entered in the eighth or ninth frame...That streak ended Saturday in Carolina when he gave up three runs in one inning of work, walking a career-high four...He got the last two outs of the eighth but only one out in the ninth...Last night, Hyatt pitched again and gave up four runs in two-thirds of an inning...He allowed a season-high four hits, including a three-run homer, the first home runs he's given up in his career working 40th inning as a pro...He has now given a career-high in earned runs in back-to-back appearances...
RED HOT REYES: SS Elmer Reyes has a season-best six-game hitting streak, batting .500 (11-for-22)...Had multiple hits, at least one RBI, and at least one run scored in four straight games until last night...Also hit his first home run since May 27, 2012 on Friday night...His .307 batting average ranks sixth in the league...Currently batting .357 in May, after a .278 April...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Tyler Wilson was selected in the tenth round by the Orioles in the 2011 draft out of the University of Virginia...The Midlothian, VA native graduated from Virginia in 2011 ranking third all-time in wins (27), only started his senior year...Was a perfect 10-0 his senior season with a 2.24 ERA...Struck out 124 in 16 starts...Made his professional debut with the GCL Orioles in 2011...Pitched three scoreless innings in two starts...Moved up to Short-season Aberdeen, where he made six starts and posted a 2.10 ERA in 30 innings...Never took a decision, had three potential wins blown by the bullpen...Struck out 24, walked four...Began 2012 with Low-A Delmarva...Recorded his first professional win in his first start on April 8...Went 3-3 with a 5.06 ERA before getting promoted to Frederick...Went 7-7 with a 3.49 ERA...Tossed seven or more innings in six of his last seven starts...Roughed up by Hillcats in two starts (0-2, 9IP, 14H,10ER, 2HR, 2HB, 2BB, 7K)...First start against the Hillcats this season was his worst (4IP, 4H, 5ER, 3BB, 2K)...The Keys still won the game 6-5, and Wilson took a no-decision...
