THE HILLCATS: Sunday, the Hillcats' finale with the Wilmington Blue Rocks was canceled due to rain...Saturday, the 'Cats lost to the Wilmington 3-2...LHP Chris Masters took a no-hitter in the sixth inning, but had it broken up along with the shutout on an RBI single from Yem Prades...Lynchburg matched the two runs Wilmington scored in sixth with two in the seventh...The game went tied into the ninth with back-to-back singles off RHP Eliecer Cardenas put runners at first and third for the Blue Rocks...Ryan Stovall then hit a ground ball under the glove of shortstop Andrelton Simmons bringing home the winning run...The Hillcats are currently in third place in the Northern Division at 20-28, 9.5 games back of the Frederick Keys in first place...
VS. WINSTON-SALEM: The Hillcats are 4-9 against the Blue Rocks this season...Lynchburg is just 1-5 while visiting BB&T Ballpark...Winston-Salem took the season series 16-4 against the Hillcats in 2010...However, the Hill-City has welcomed a new affiliate in the Atlanta Braves this year...Last season the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (2010 Braves Advance-A affiliate) nearly split the season series with the Dash taking nine games of 20...
TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT: Last night's one-run loss was the Hillcats' 21st loss by that small a margin this season...That is second-most, only behind Myrtle Beach's 24, in the League...Now 12-21 in one-run affairs, a winning percentage of .364, Lynchburg holds the worst record in the circuit...
BEST OF THE BRAVOS: Eight members of the Hillcats are ranked amongst the top 30 prospects in the Atlanta Braves organization according to Baseball America...That list includes C Christian Bethancourt (12), SS Andrelton Simmons (15), RHP David Hale (17), RHP Dimasther Delgado (18), OF Todd Cunningham (20), OF Adam Milligan (22), INF Joe Leonard (23) and 2B Phil Gosselin (25)...
GET'EM ON: OF L.V. Ware went 0-for-2 Saturday night with a walk...He's now reached base in 13 consecutive contests...In that span he is hitting ..317 (13-for-41) with three doubles, a triple, and two home runs...He's also been walked five times and hit twice...The last time he didn't reach base was in the second game of a double header July 27 where he only came up twice...Snapped a four-game hit-streak that day...
GET'EM IN: INF Joe Leonard has driven in 16 runs over his last 15 games...That makes up 31 percent of his RBI total on the season thus far in about 16 percent of his total games...He has two four-RBI game in that stretch...He's driven in a run in six of his last eight games...
WILEY WATCH: OF Keenan Wiley was called up from Low-A Rome on April 25th...He played in his 84th game with the Hillcats Friday night, going 0-for-4 with a stolen base, but is still hitting .288 on the year...That mark would be good for third in the Carolina League but Wiley is still just over four plate appearances short of qualifying...He'll need 62 plate appearances over the last 21 games of the season, an average of 2.95 PA/G to meet the season qualification mark...
CATNIPS: INF Joey Terdoslavich hit his 46th double of the season Tuesday night, setting a new Lynchburg record...He is just five behind the all-time Carolina League record...The Hillcats stole a season-high six bases Thursday night against the Blue Rocks, with six different players...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Andre Rienzo was signed as a free agent on November 17, 2006 by the White Sox...Spent all of 2010 in Kannapolis...Ranked second in the South Atlantic League in shutouts (2), tied for third in complete games (2) and was ninth in strikeouts (125)...Made three starts against Lynchburg this season...Earned a win, giving up two runs, one earned, in five innings on May 6...Gave up one run on five hits while striking out eight in six innings in a no-decision May 23...Went seven innings in a rain-shortened complete game shutout June 27...Currently 4-4 with a 3.49 ERA in 21 appearance, 19 starts starts this season...
GAME TWO'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Ryan Buch was selected in the eighth round in 2009 out of Monmouth University where he went 22-8 with a 3.43 ERA over three seasons...Made his professional debut with the Rookie-level Great Falls Voyagers...Went 1-2 with a 3.38 in 16 relief appearances...Last year, made four starts with Rookie-level Bristol, but spent most of the season with Low-A Kannapolis (24 g, 10 gs)...Posted a sub three ERA between both stops...Began this season with Kannapolis where he was their opening day starter...Called-up to Winston-Salem in late May after eight starts (4-3, 3.65)...Made his Advance-A debut against the Hillcats on May 24...Went six innings, allowed one earned run on seven hits and two walks, while striking out five in a no-decision...So far with the Dash he is 2-4 with a 5.59 ERA in seven starts...
