THE HILLCATS: Last night, the Hillcats beat the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 5-4...Lynchburg went up early with four runs in the first inning...Up 5-0 heading in to the seventh, the ‘Cats surrendered four unanswered, but held on to win 5-4...The Hillcats currently sit in fourth place in the Northern Division at 3-6, 2.5 games back of the first place Frederick Keys...

VS. MYRTLE BEACH: The Hillcats are 4-6 against the Pelicans this season...Lynchburg was the first visiting team to win a series in Myrtle Beach 5/13-15 this season, but has lost both home series so far this year against the Pelicans...The road team is 7-3 in the season series...The Pelicans were the Advanced-A affiliate of the Braves last season...Seven active members on the Hillcats roster spent time in Myrtle Beach in 2010...

QUITE THE MATCH-UP: The Pelicans and the Hillcats rank first and second in the league in hitting respectively...Myrtle Beach is currently hitting .263, while Lynchburg is right behind them at .261...No other team is even hitting .250 collectively this season...Head-to-head, the two teams have had their last five games be decided by threee runs or less...Since the Pelicans swept the Hillcats in the first three-game series, neither team has won twice in a row against the other...

SCORELESS AFFAIRS: Lynchburg has been involved in 13 shutouts this season, second-most in the league next to the Kinston Indians at 18...The ‘Cats are 6-7 in shutout contests after losing Thursday night 4-0...That night, four Keys hurlers combined for the shutout, the most opposing pitchers in a shutout against the ‘Cats this season...

BEST OF THE BRAVOS: Eight members of the Hillcats are ranked amongst the top 30 prospects in the Braves organization according to Baseball America...That list includes C Christian Bethancourt (12), SS Andrelton Simmons (15), RHP David Hale (17), RHP Dimasther Delgado (18), OF Todd Cunningham (20), OF Adam Milligan (22), INF Joe Leonard (23) and 2B Phil Gosselin (25)...

SECOND HALF SURGE: C Shawn McGill went into the All-Star break on an 0-for-18 slide...Since the three days off, he's been red hot...He's started just three of the Hillcats first nine games in the second half, as Christian Bethancourt (#12 prospect) has seen the bulk of the catching time...But in his three opportunities, McGill is 6-for-12 with two doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored...

THE GREEN & GOLDEN GOOSE: INF Phil Gosselin went 1-for-3 with a run scored last night extending his current hit-streak to six games, which matches his season-high...In that span, he is 10-for-22, with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs scored...He has now hit safely in 12 of his last 14 games...He hit .286 with a home run, seven doubles, and 13 RBI in the month of June...He's driven in at least 10 runs in each of the first three months of the season, April (10), May (16)...His 40 RBI on the season lead the team, and his 23 multi-hit games and tied for most by any Hillcat this year with Andrelton Simmons...Now hitting .283 on the season, which is good for ninth in the league...

DEJA VU: On May 7 in Winston-Salem, OF Adam Milligan injured his hamstring running after a ball hit down the line in right field...He would exit the game and eventually land on the disabled list for a week...Sunday night, legging out a double, Milligan did it again...He remained in the game and was tagged out on the bases trying to advance to third, but would not re-enter...In both games, OF Keenan Wiley has replaced Milligan and done quite well, Wiley finished 3-for-3 with an RBI back on May 7, and went 1-for-2 Sunday with a double...Not playing since the injury, Milligan has now been placed on the DL, and C Ryan Query has been called up from Danville...

STREAKING ‘CATS: INF Joe Leonard went 1-for-3 with an RBI last night extending his season-high hitting streak to nine-games...He is now 10-for-34 during the streak with three doubles and five RBI...OF Adam Milligan (DL) hasn't played since Sunday night but currently holds a career-high 10-game hitting streak...Milligan is 13-for-36 over his past 10, hitting .286 on the season, tied for sixth in the league...He should be a prime candidate for Player of the Month for June after hitting .306 with four home runs, 14 RBI, and 14 runs scored...He also totaled five doubles and three triples, slugging .576 in 23 June contests...

228 AT-BATS LATER: INF Phil Gosselin homered in his eighth at-bat of the season, April 10 in Potomac...He was the first Hillcat to go deep in 2011...He went his next 228 at-bats with out a home run, before launching a three-run shot Friday June 17 off Kinston reliever Francisco Jimenez in the sixth inning...In between home runs he had 62 hits, including 16 doubles, and a team leading five triples...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Wilfredo Boscan was signed by the Rangers as a non-drafted free agent on July 10, 2006...Entered the 2010 season rated as the Rangers 27th best prospect by Baseball America...Spent the entire 2010 season with High-A Bakersfield...Was fifth in the league in strikeouts (130)...Was named the Rangers minor league Pitcher of the Month in April, 2009 with Hickory...Started the 2011 season in Double-A Frisco...Went 1-3 with a 6.95 ERA in five starts there...Sent to Myrtle Beach on May 3...Faced Lynchburg once on May 15...Took the loss, pitching six innings and giving up five runs, all earned...Currently 2-4 with a 4.50 ERA with Myrtle Beach this season...
