THE HILLCATS: Last night Lynchburg shutout Myrtle Beach with a 4-0 victory at BB&T Coastal Field...The Hillcats now have a two games to one advantage in the four-game series and are 4-2 on their current seven-game road swing...Tonight is the finale of this set and the last game of seven in a row on the road...

VS. MYRTLE BEACH: Lynchburg is 7-5 against Myrtle Beach this season and 4-1 on the Grand Strand...After losing the first series at City Stadium, the Hillcats have taken two out of three in each of the past two sets...This is the first four-game series between the two teams this season...Last season the Cats went 12-8 against the Pelicans...Myrtle Beach holds the all-time advantage in the series with Lynchburg 119-104...

I'LL MATCH YOU: The Hillcats blanked the Birds last night one night after they shutout the Cats...It marked the third time this season that Lynchburg shutout an opponent the next game after they were kept of the board and it was the second time in eight days...The 4-0 win gave the Hillcats eight shutouts on the season as opposed to being blanked five times...All eight of the doughnuts the Cats have handed out have been in the last 47 games, after they went 44 without keeping their opponent off the board...

LET ME GIVE YOU MY NUMBER: RHP Julio Teheran allowed four runs in seven innings last night to take his second loss against Lynchburg this season...After throwing six shutout innings against the Hillcats on May 26th, he has given up 12 earned runs in his last two starts against the Cats (8.76 ERA)...In his three starts against the Green & Gold he is 1-2 with a 5.89 ERA (12 earned runs in 18 and 1/3 innings), while in his other six starts in the Carolina League he is 3-2 with a 1.90 earned run average (eight earned runs in 38 innings)...Five of the six homers he has allowed in the CL have come courtesy of the Cats...

GIANT KILLERS: This season the Hillcats have handed losses to RHP Julio Teheran, LHP T.J. McFarland and RHP Joe Gardner, who have a combined record of 19-10 in the Carolina League this season...Teheran had a 3-1 mark with 1.38 ERA when the Hillcats beat the top ranked pitching prospect in the Braves system and last night they topped him again...The right-hander had given up six runs in six starts before he allowed a career-high nine runs (eight earned) at City Stadium...McFarland was 7-1 and leading the league in ERA when the Cats handed him his second defeat of the season...Gardner was 6-1 with a 1.58 ERA when Lynchburg gave him a loss...He had given up five runs in his last five starts when the Hillcats became the first team all year to score five on him in one start...

TELL US WHAT YOU LEARNED: RHP James Avery dealt eight scoreless innings last night to earn his fifth win of the campaign...It was his longest start of the season, two outs shy of matching the longest outing of his career and the longest start by a Hillcats pitcher this season...The outing prior Avery made a spot start with Triple-A Louisvlle and went six innings, giving up three runs in a no-decision quality start for the Bats...It was his second appearance at the Triple-A level, the other coming in 2006...

A FREE MAN: RHP Justin Freeman worked a scoreless ninth inning last night to close out the shutout win over the Pelicans...He has now thrown 13 consecutive scoreless frames and over that time his ERA has dropped from 4.60 to 3.25...The right-hander is first in the league in games pitched (36) and second in games finished (24)...Freeman is also first on the team with six holds and second on the squad with six saves...In April his ERA was 7.88, in May it was 3.07, in June it dropped to 2.40 and so far in July he has not given up a run in six appearances out of the pen...

HOTCHKISS AND THE HILLCATS: RHP Jordan Hotchkiss tossed seven scoreless innings Wednesday night to earn his team-leading sixth win of the season for the Hillcats...He lowered his earned run average to 2.35 and again became eligible for the league leaders, ranking first in the Carolina League...In his last two starts he has tossed a combined 14 and 2/3 innings of action...This season in three games (two starts) against Myrtle Beach the right-hander is 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA (one unearned run in 14 innings)...

COME BACK AND DAY OH: OF Kyle Day went 1-for-4 last night and has now hit in five straight games, matching his longest hitting streak of the season...He has hit in 13 of his last 15 games and over that time he is 21-for-48 (.438) with three doubles, a triple, a grand slam, ten RBI, eight runs scored, five walks and three steals...In those 15 contests Day has raised his average from .226 to .271...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Brett Oberholtzer was selected by the Braves in the eighth round of the 2008 draft out of high school in New Castle, Delaware...That same year he made his professional debut with GCL Braves and went 4-1 with a 2.89 ERA in 10 relief appearances...Last season pitched for Rookie Danville and had a 7-2 mark with a 1.89 ERA in 13 starts (two complete games)...This season he progressed to Advanced-A Myrtle Beach and he has gone 2-3 with a 4.15 ERA in 12 games (nine starts)...Oberholtzer has pitched once against Lynchburg in relief and he did not allow a run in two innings of action...The lefty began the season as the 13th ranked prospect in the Atlanta Braves system according to Baseball America...
