THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg split a doubleheader at Wilmington last night as their four-game series finally got underway after the first two games were postponed due to rain....The Hillcats won game one 1-0 to win their fifth game in a row and at that point had won nine of their last ten games and were a season-high 19 games over .500...The Blue Rocks responded by taking game two by a score of 1-0 as well in extra innings...The Cats still have a five-game lead for first place in the Northern Division and the best record in the league...Today's two games are the final two games of a four-game series at Wilmington and the sixth and seventh contests of a seven-game road trip...
VS. WILMINGTON: The Hillcats are 4-4 against the Blue Rocks this season with both teams winning a three-game series on their home field...They lost two out of three games in a three-game series at Wilmington in mid-May...That was the first road series of the season for Lynchburg and that is still the only road series loss for the Cats all season...Last season the Rocks topped the Cats in the season series 11-9 and were 6-4 at Frawley Stadium...Wilmington has the all-time advantage over Lynchburg 166-120 and they are 87-58 at home...
MAGIC NUMBER: Last night Lynchburg shrunk their magic number to clinch the Northern Division to 13...They lead the division by five games with 16 games left to play...
LIFE AT THE TOP: Lynchburg entered today tied for the second most wins in all of minor league baseball with 36 (only behind the Birmingham Barons)...The Hillcats have been in first place almost every day of the first half of the season...
CATCHING THE WORM: With their series opening win last night at Wilmington, the Hillcats improved to 16-1 in series openers this season...They have now won 15 in a row and are 9-0 in game one contests on the road...Not surprisingly, they are 12-2-2 in series the season and are 5-1-2 on the road...
LET'S PLAY FOUR! Lynchburg and Wilmington are playing all four games in this series in two days...The four games should take a little over 24 hours to play...All four games are scheduled for seven innings, but game two last night went to extra innings and took nine innings to complete...
EXTRA BLUE CREW PLEASE: Last night was the third time this season the Hillcats and Blue Rocks have gone to extra innings...Wilmington has won two of those three games, their only two extra-inning wins in six attempts this season...Lynchburg had won four extra-inning contests in a row, including their last win against the Rocks prior to last night's loss...Both of the Cats walk-off losses this season have come at Frawley Stadium...
P-NAT FREE: RHP Ronald Uviedo won his third game of the season last night by throwing five scoreless innings in game one...All three of his losses this season have come at the hands of Potomac, including his latest loss two starts ago...In three outings against the Nationals he has gone 0-3 with a 4.32 ERA...In his eight other starts against the rest of the league he is 3-0 with a 3.12 earned run average...
NEAR PERFECTION: LHP Chi-Hung Cheng tossed five scoreless innings in game two last night and only allowed one hit...The hit he allowed was a fly ball lost in the lights by OF Miles Durham that turned into a triple...Cheng hasn't allowed a run in his last three starts, spanning 15 and 2/3 innings...Despite his effort he took a no-decision and the Hillcats lost for just the third time this season out of the 12 games he has appeared in...
THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD: RHP Bryan Morris makes his much anticipated Hillcats debut this afternoon...He was scheduled to start the first Sunday of the season before he suffered from shoulder soreness...He also missed time in Spring Training with a toe injury...These injuries after he missed all of 2007 after having Tommy John surgery...Morris is the fifth ranked prospect in the Pirates organization according to Baseball America...
TODAY'S OPPOSING PITCHERS: RHP Eduardo Paulino will start game one and was signed by the Royals in 2006 out of the Dominican Republic...He made his professional debut with full season Low-A Burlington in 2007 and went 3-2 with a 4.86 ERA in 12 starts...Last year he returned to the Bees and went 5-4 with a 3.68 earned run average in 19 games (17 starts)...This season he has made ten appearances (six starts) with Wilmington and has gone 1-3 with a 5.60...Paulino has made one start against Lynchburg, going four innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits in a no-decision...The Blue Rocks rallied to win the game 6-5 at City Stadium...LHP Rowdy Hardy gets the nod in game two and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Royals in 2006 after pitching for Austin Peay State University...In three years with the Governors he went a combined 32-12 with a 2.73 ERA in 56 games (45 starts)...In 2006 he made hi professional debut with Rookie level Idaho Falls and went 5-3 with a 2.69 ERA in 15 starts...Hemoved up to Advanced-A in 2007 and went 15-5 with a 2.48 ERA in 26 games (22 starts) with Wilmington...He earned Carolina League Pitcher of the Year honors in the Carolina League...Last season he advanced to Double-A Northwest Arkansas and posted a 6-11 mark with a 4.97 earned run average in 28 games (27 starts) with the Naturals...This season he returned to the Blue Rocks and has no decisions with a 4.91 ERA in six appearances in relief...He has worked an inning and 1/3 of scoreless relief this season against Lynchburg...In 2007 he went 3-0 with a 1.23 ERA in three starts against the Hillcats...
