Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Wilmington, DE - The Wilmington Blue Rocks are proud to announce that pitchers Danny Duffy and Everett Teaford, along with third baseman Mike Moustakas and outfielder David Lough have been named to the 2009 Carolina League All-Star team.
Teaford and Duffy were named the Rocks' Co-Pitchers of the Month in April. Teaford was also honored as the CL's Pitcher of the Week from May 18-24.
Teaford owns a 6-1 record through 10 starts. The left-hander is tied for second in the league in wins and is sixth in the CL with a 2.68 ERA.
Duffy has been almost as impressive. The youngest player on the Blue Rocks roster is tied for sixth in the league with five wins. He also ranks third in the CL with 58 strikeouts, and fifth in ERA at 2.66.
Lough, who was named a starter in the outfield, has been a rock of consistency for Wilmington. He was named the Blue Rocks' Player of the Month in May, leading the team with a .342 average, which was good for second in the league. Overall for the season Lough is also second in the CL with a .323 batting average. The outfielder ranks second on the team with 16 multi-hit games, and is tops on the squad with a .438 average with runners in scoring position.
Moustakas, who will serve as one of the team's utility infielders, has been a bit more streaky at the plate, but has been a bigger power threat. The third baseman is tied for fifth in the Carolina League with 35 RBIs, and also co-owns the team lead in home runs with seven. Baseball America rates Moustakas as the top prospect in the Kansas City Royals' system.
The All-Stars were selected based on a vote by Carolina League managers, general managers and media members. The squad is made up of 10 pitchers and 13 position players. The Blue Rocks' four representatives trail only the Frederick Keys' six.
The Carolina League All-Stars will play against the California League All-Star team on Tuesday, June 23 in Lake Elsinore, CA. Myrtle Beach's Rocket Wheeler will manage the squad. Lynchburg's Wally Whitehurst will serve as coach, and Potomac's Jeff Allred is the trainer.
