
Keys Salavage Series Split with Red Sox

For the second game in a row, the Frederick Keys lineup was able to jump all over the Salem Red Sox starting pitcher. The Keys defeated the Red Sox Sunday afternoon 6-1, salvaging a split of the four-game set.
Salem RHP Bryan Price struggled. The Keys were able to get on the scoreboard in the first. CF Matt Angle led off the inning with a single. The speedster than stole second basse. He was knocked in on SS Pedro Florimon's RBI-single to give the Keys a 1-0 lead. Florimon would advance to second on a Price wild pitch, and scored on C Caleb Joseph's double to left, extending the Keys lead to two.
Frederick tacked on a couple more runs in the second. The Keys were able to load the bases with two men down. 1B Brandon Waring blooped a single to right, knocking in two, and making it a 4-0 Frederick lead.
The Keys would get to Price once again in the fourth. For the second time that afternoon, Frederick loaded the bases for Waring. He hit a slow-rolling ground out to shortstop, knocking in a run, and giving the Keys a five-run lead.
Price exited after the fourth He allowed five earned runs on nine hits while striking out five.
On the other side, Keys LHP Zach Britton brought his A-game. He allowed just one unearned run in six innings of work. He surrendered just two hits, while walking three and striking out three.
Frederick tacked on a sixth run in the eighth. 2B Bobby Stevens and Angle led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Runners were on the corners when Red Sox reliever RHP Josh Papelbon tried to pick-off Angle. He threw the ball away, allowing Stevens to score.
Angle finished the game 4-4 with a walk and a run scored. He reached base in all five plate appearances.
Britton got the win, improving his record to 3-2. Price took the loss, dropping to 0-2.
The Keys have tomorrow off. On Tuesday, they head to Lynchburg for a three-game set against the Hillcats. The Keys return to Frederick on Friday, June 12th, for a three-game set with the Potomac Nationals. First pitch on Friday night is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Fireworks will follow the game.
