THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg topped Wilmington 6-4 in 10 innings last night in game one of a three-game series at City Stadium...The Hillcats have now won eight of their last ten games and still have sole possession of first place in the Northern Division and have the best record in the circuit...Tonight is game two of a three-game set against Wilmington...The current three-game homestand is sandwiched between 13 road contests...
VS. WILMINGTON: The Hillcats lost two out of three games in a three-game series at Wilmington in mid-May...The Blue Rocks took the rubber game with a 10-inning 8-7 victory...Last season the Rocks topped the Cats in the season series 11-9 and were 5-5 at City Stadium...Wilmington has the all-time advantage over Lynchburg 164-118 and they are 78-61 in the Hill City...
GOT 'EM RIGHT WHERE WE WANT 'EM: Last night's win was the Hillcats 15th come from behind victory this season out of their 22 wins...Lynchburg came from five runs down on Thursday at Winston-Salem and came from three runs down last night...The Cats waited until the eighth inning to rally in both of those contests...Last season they had 22 comeback wins in 138 games...The Hillcats also improved to 12-8 in games in which their opponents score first...
FREE BASEBALL: Lynchburg moved to 3-1 in extra-inning games last night's with the 6-5 win...After dropping their first extra-inning game at Wilmington, 8-7 in ten innings, they have won their last three, including a pair of ten inning wins in thir last two games...
IT'S A WALK-OFF: The Hillcats exacted their revenge on the Blue Rocks last night by beating them in walk-off fashion a night ago at City Stadium...Wilmington handed Lynchburg their only walk-off loss this season with an RBI bunt single...The Cats ended last night with their second walk-off homer of the season, both by 3B Pedro Alvarez...The Hillcats now have three walk-off wins this season, the same amount they had all of 2008...
TONE SETTER: With their game one victory last night, the Cats improved to 10-1 this season in the first game of a series...Not surprisingly, the are 7-2-1 in sets so far this year and have won three straight...
SIGH OF RELIEF: The bullpen for Lynchburg has a 13-3 mark with a 3.45 ERA with 11 saves in 14 chances this season...Over the past ten games the bullpen has gone 5-1 with a 1.41 ERA (six earned runs in 38 and 1/3 innings) and two saves...In 2008 the bullpen went 23-25 with a 5.21 ERA and was 31-for-51 in save opportunities...RHP Dustin Molleken has not allowed a run in his last six outings (13 innings) and RHP Michael Dubee has not allowed a run in his last nine appearances (10 and 2/3 innings) and has gone 1-0 with two saves over that stretch...
PLAYING THE STAR AGAIN: 3B Pedro Alvarez ended last night's game with his second walk-off homer of the season at City Stadium...Six of his seven homers have been go-ahead shots and the other was a game-tying long ball in the ninth inning at Wilmington...Alvarez now has three game-winning homers this year...
TOUCH 'EM ALL: UTIL Miles Durham hit a three-run game-tying inside the park home run in the bottom of the eighth inning last night...It was the second inside the park homer this year for Lynchburg, along with the round tripper hit by SS Jordy Mercer in Salem last weekend...Durham is tied for second in the league with three triples (behind Hillcat Alex Presley, who has four), third in doubles with 12 and third in extra-base hits with 18...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Eduardo Paulino was signed by the Royals in 2006 out of the Dominican Republic...He made his professional debut with full season Low-A Burlington in 2007 and went 3-2 with a 4.86 ERA in 12 starts...Last year he returned to the Bees and went 5-4 with a 3.68 earned run average in 19 games (17 starts)...This season he has made six appearances (three starts) with Wilmington and has gone 1-0 with a 6.63...Tonight is his first appearance against Lynchburg...
