
Wilmington tops Hillcats

Wilmington scored four unanswered runs in the final three innings to defeat the Hillcats 6-5 at City Stadium Saturday night. The Hillcats and Blue Rocks will meet in the rubber match on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m.
Lynchburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Matt Hague socked a two-run home run that sailed over the left field wall.
The Hillcats (22-13) tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second. Eddie Prasch led off the inning with a walk. After Wilmington starter Eduardo Paulino retired Alex Presley, Jose De Los Santos and Jordy Mercer connected with back-to-back singles. Mercer's single scored Prasch and enabled De Los Santos to reach third base. Pedro Alvarez followed with a sacrifice fly, which plated Mercer and put the Hillcats in front 4-0.
The Blue Rocks got on the board in the top of the third. Ryan Eigsti hit a leadoff single and advanced to second on Adrian Oritz' sacrifice bunt. Derrick Robinson drove in Eigsti with an RBI single to make it 4-1.
Lynchburg answered wit a run in the bottom of the fourth. De Los Santos singled to lead off the inning and advanced to third when Jordy Mercer reached on a throwing error by Wilmington's Mike Moustakas. De Los Santos scored when Alvarez hit into a force out that erased Mercer at second base.
Moustakas atoned for his error by blasting a solo home run off Lynchburg starter Paul Mildren in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 5-2.
Wilmington (17-18) scored two runs off Lynchburg reliever Chris Cullen in the top of the seventh. Robinson laced an RBI double that scored Anthony Seratelli. Robinson scored on Johnny Giavotella's RBI single, which reduced the deficit to 5-4.
Jeff Bianchi led off the Wilmington eighth with a double and advanced to third on David Lough's sacrifice bunt. Bianchi raced home with the tying run when Hillcats catcher Kris Watts allowed a passed ball with Paulo Orlando at the plate.
The Blue Rocks seized the lead in the top of the ninth. Eigsti doubled and scored on Giavotella's one-out single to put Wilmington 6-5.
Ben Swaggerty (1-1) earned the win for Wilmington while Lynchburg's R. J. Rodriguez (3-1) was charged with the loss.
