Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
THE HILLCATS:
Lynchburg fell 6-3 in the final game of a three-game series with Kinston yesterday afternoon at City Stadium...The Hillcats are still up a half a game on Potomac for first place in the Northern Division and still have the best record in the league...Tonight is the first game of a four-game series with Myrtle Beach and game four of a seven-game homestand...
VS. MYRTLE BEACH:
The Hillcats opened up their season series against the Pelicans by winning two out of three in their recent set at BB&T Coastal Field...Last year the Pelicans took the season series 13-7 and were 6-4 against the Cats at City Stadium...Lynchburg was 6-6 against the Birds until they lost seven in a row to drop the series...Myrtle Beach has the all-time advantage in the series 110-92 and they are 50-48 in Lynchburg...
IF YOU'RE NOT FIRST, YOU'RE LAST:
The Cats entered today in first place in the Northern Division with a half game lead over Potomac...Lynchburg has only been out of first place for one day thus far this year...
NO LONGER WELCOME:
With their 6-3 victory yesterday, Kinston took two out of three from Lynchburg in their three-game series...It was only the second time in seven series that the Hillcats lost a set, and it was the first out of four series at City Stadium that the Cats didn't win...
SOGGY SUNDAY:
Despite rain falling through nearly the entire game yesterday, the game started on time and suffered no delays...Thanks to an outstanding effort by the grounds crew the Hillcats avoided their second postponement of the season...
RUBBER MATCHES:
The Hillcats dropped to 1-2 in the deciding games of series this year with their 6-3 loss yesterday...It was their first rubber match loss at Calvin Falwell Field...
STREAK STOPPER:
Lynchburg has not lost more than two games in a row this season...They have lost back-to-back contests twice this season but both times responded with a one-run win...
CAN'T HOLD ON:
In yesterday's series finale the Hillcats led on three separate occasions...They were up 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 but could not hold onto any of those advantages...It was only the second time this season Lynchburg has lost when leading after five innings and it was the fourth time this year they have blown a lead...
RARE LETDOWN:
The bullpen for the Hillcats could not hold two different leads in the 6-3 loss on Sunday...RHP Moises Robles took a blown save when he allowed an inherited runner to tie the game in the sixth inning...RHP Harrison Bishop also could not keep a one-run advantage and took the loss as he allowed the K-Tribe to take their first lead of the game with a four-run eighth inning...Lynchburg's relievers had gone 20 consecutive innings without allowing a run...The bullpen's ERA of 4.10 is still far better than the 5.19 earned run average of the Cats starters...The pen's still 8-2 on the season and 9-for-12 in save situations...
SOLE PROVIDER:
UTIL Miles Durham went 3-for-4 with a double, his first home run of the season, an RBI and three runs scored...He smacked three of the four hits the Hillcats had on the day and came a triple shy of the cycle...Durham hit 18 home runs in 2008 (14 with Hickory and four with Lynchburg) and was tied with OF Jared Keel for the most runs driven in in the Pirates Minor League system with 81...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER:
LHP Richard Sullivan was selected in the 11th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft by the Braves out of Savannah College of Art & Design...His final year with the Bees he went 7-4 with a 2.36 ERA in 16 games (14 starts)...The southpaw made his professional debut last year with the Short Season Low-A Danville Braves and had a 2-0 record with a 1.40 ERA in four starts before his promotion to Low-A Rome, where he went 2-2 with a 2.80 earned run average in eight starts...Sullivan began the year back in Rome and posted a 4-1 record with a 3.71 ERA in five starts before his call-up to Myrtle Beach...Tonight he makes his Advanced-A debut and his first start against the Hillcats...
