Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Behind five scoreless innings from starter Chi-Hung Cheng and three RBI from Kent Sakamoto the Hillcats beat the Pelicans in game one of a four-game series at City Stadium on Monday night. Game two is on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. back at Calvin Falwell Field.
The Hillcats got on the board first with a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the second inning by Kent Sakamoto. He drove-in Miles Durham, who doubled to start the frame.
An inning later the speed of Jose De Los Santos led to another Lynchburg run. The infielder was hit by a pitch to get a board. Once on base, De Los Santos stole second and went on to steal third as well. On the steal of third the Pelicans catcher, Matt Kenelly threw it away and that allowed De Los Santos to get up and score the second run of the game for the Cats.
Lynchburg would score in their third straight inning in the fourth when Kent Sakamoto hit his third home run of the season, a two-run shot, to make it a 4-0 Hillcats lead. Sakamoto has hit all three of his long balls on the Hillcats current homestand.
Starter Chi-Hung Cheng (3-0) earned the victory for Lynchburg (15-10) and the Pelicans starter Richard Sullivan (0-1) took the loss for Myrtle Beach (9-16).
The second game of the four-game series takes place on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. at City Stadium. Left-hander Paul Mildren (1-3, 5.94) will get the start for the Hillcats opposite fellow lefty Edgar Osuna (2-2, 4.01) for the Birds.
