THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg dropped the middle game of their three-game series with Kinston 6-2 last nght at City Stadium...The Hillcats are still up a game on Potomac for first place in the Northern Division and still have the best record in the league...Today is the final game of a three-game series with Kinston and game three of a seven-game homestand...

VS. KINSTON: The Hillcats began the season series against the Indians last week at Kinston and split a four-game series at Grainger Stadium...Last season the Indians won the series against the Hillcats 12-7 and were 6-4 against Lynchburg at City Stadium...Lynchburg leads Kinston in the all-time series 141-140 and are 79-59 in the Hill City...

FRIENDLY FALWELL: Despite the loss last night Lynchburg is to 9-4 at City Stadium this season...They have won all three series played thus far on their home turf...Last season the Hillcats went 32-36 at Calvin Falwell Field...

DOWN BUT NOT OUT: Of the 14 victories Lynchburg has this season, 10 of them are in come from behind fashion...On Friday night the Hillcats trailed 3-1 through three and a half innings before they scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good...Five of their last six wins have been comebacks...

IF YOU'RE NOT FIRST, YOU'RE LAST: The Cats entered today in first place in the Northern Division with a one-game lead over Potomac...Lynchburg has only been out of first place for one day thus far this year...

FABULOUS FOURTH: The five-run bottom of the fourth inning on Friday night was the second time this season the Hillcats have scored five or more runs in a fourth inning against the Indians this season...Lynchburg scored seven in the top of the seventh last Thursday at Grainger Stadium en route to an 11-7 win...That is the biggest inning of the year so far for the Cats who have scored three or more runs in an inning four times against the K-Tribe in five games this season...The six hits the Hillcats smacked in the fourth inning Friday night was also the most hits they have had in a frame in 2009...

NOT SO FESTIVE SOMBRERO: 3B Pedro Alvarez went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts...It was the second time this season he has struckout four times in a game, and both have been against Kinston...Alvarez has had trouble with lefties this season, batting .179 against southpaws with 19 strikeouts in 39 at-bats...He is the only Hillcat with four strikeouts in a game this season...

BACK ABOARD: INF Jose De Los Santos came off the Disabled List on Friday and has gone 3-for-9 with two RBI in his first two games back...He was leading the league in runs scored and stolen bases when he went down with the injury...The Hillcats also welcomed back OF Jared Keel and RHP Moises Robles on Friday, both reassigned from Extended Spring Training...Keel lead the Hillcats with 20 home runs and 81 RBI last season and was named the team MVP...He was tied for the most RBI in the Pirates minor league system...

RIGHT AGAINST THE RIGHTIES: OF Alex Presley has been outstanding this season against right-handers, batting .487 (19-for-39) with four doubles, a triple, a home run and five runs batted in...Unfortunately, he has struggled against left-handers, hitting just .083 (2-for-24) with no RBI...Last night he went 2-for-2 with against righties and 0-for-1...

TODAY'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Zach Putnam was selected in the 5th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Michigan...He was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year last year after posting a 9-0 record and a 2.58 ERA in 12 starts...He was the first player in conference history to receive all Big Ten honors as both a hitter and a pitcher, batting .307-11-51 RBI as a DH last season...Last year Putnam made his professional debut with Short Season Low-A Mahoning Valley and went 0-1 with a 3.72 ERA in three starts for the Scrappers...This season he has gone 2-0 with a 5.00 ERA in four starts for Kinston and he makes his first start against Lynchburg today...
