Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Lynchburg, Va. – The natural rivalry between the Lynchburg Hillcats and Salem Avalanche has taken a new step.

This upcoming Saturday will feature a historic day-night, two-ballpark doubleheader between Lynchburg and Salem and will be known as the Highway 460 Series. Game one begins at noon at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. The first pitch of the second game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Lynchburg's City Stadium.

Carolina League President John Hopkins is extremely excited about the Highway 460 Series.

"This great doubleheader will spotlight two tremendous facilities and franchises as well as the Carolina League as a whole," Hopkins said.

"I think I am most excited for our fans," Lynchburg Hillcats General Manager Paul Sunwall said. "This will be a wonderful opportunity for them to come out and support the Lynchburg Hillcats in both Lynchburg and Salem."

The 58 driving miles separating the two stadiums is the shortest distance between two ballparks in the entire Carolina League.

Salem Avalanche General Manager Jamie Toole is glad to finally get an opportunity to play the Highway 460 Series.

"The opportunity to play two baseball games in two cities on one day is one that we could not miss," Toole said. "The Highway 460 Series will reinforce the fact that the best rivalry in the Carolina League is right here in Southwest Virginia."

A special logo featuring the Highway 460 road sign will be used to commemorate the inaugural event.
