
Lynch Strikes out Career High in Victory over BlueClaws

FIRSTENERGY PARK (Lakewood, NJ) - The Lexington Legends took game one, 4-1, in the first game of the series facing the Lakewood BlueClaws. The Legends remain in first place in the Southern Division of the South Atlantic League and are 31-22 in the second half of the season.
Lakewood scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Rodolfo Duran reached on a fielding error by Lexington's third baseman Jeison Guzman and advanced to second base. Matt Vierling then singled him home and the BlueClaws led 1-0.
The Legends took the lead for good in the top of the third inning. Kyle Isbel singled to centerfield. The next batter, MJ Melendez, blasted a two-run home run to right center field and Lexington led 2-1. Melendez now has 16 long balls this season.
In the top of the eighth inning, Brewer Hicklen hit a single to left field then moved to third base on a single by Cristian Perez. With Cal Jones at the plate, Tyler Fallwell threw a wild pitch and Hicklen scored while Perez moved to second base. Marten Gasparini then singled home Perez and Lexington led 4-1.
Daniel Lynch was awarded the win pitching 5.0 innings allowing one run (unearned) on three hits while striking out a career high eight batters. Julian Garcia was given the loss, throwing 6.0 innings allowing two runs on four hits while walking two and striking out 11.
The Legends and BlueClaws will meet again tomorrow August 19 at 1:05 p.m. Lexington will send RHP Del Rosario (4-5, 3.98 ERA) to face Lakewood's RHP Spencer Howard (8-7, 3.90 ERA).
