Lyde Helps Wizards to Second Straight Win

BISMARCK N.D., March 13, 2007 - Behind the stellar performance of center Kevin Lyde, who recorded his second double-double of the season with 23 points and 15 rebounds, the Wizards dominated the paint and squeaked out a 126 - 123 victory over the Arkansas RimRockers. The Wizards who move to 22-14 on the season outscored the RimRockers in the paint 72-44 on the night.
The Wizards started the game slow spotting the RimRockers the first seven points of the game, before guard Maurice Baker started to heat up. Baker was a perfect five for five from long distance in the first quarter finishing the game with 21 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.
"We got a couple of huge performances from our veterans" said head coach Dave Joerger. "Mo was back to his old self, and Kevin probably played his best game of the season tonight. He had a huge block late that help us seal the win".
Behind Baker's hot shooting, the Wizards built a 37-24 lead at the end of the first quarter. Arkansas used a 10 - 2 run in the second quarter to take the lead and went into the locker room at halftime with a one point lead 61-60.
The second half was back and forth featuring 11 lead changes. Wizards forwards Renaldo Major and Darius Rice stepped up and scored 27 of their 41 combined points the second half. Major and Rice, 26 and 15 respectively, along with Baker and Lyde were among seven Wizards in double-figures.
The RimRockers, who fell to 11-29, were led once again by guard Clay Tucker who poured in 36 points to go along with his 10 assists. Forward Alexander Johnson, on assignment from the Memphis Grizzlies added a double-double as well with 20 points and a game-high 19 rebounds.
Both teams return to the Bismarck Civic Center at 7pm tomorrow night for a rematch.
