Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers News Release
ROCHESTER - Casey Roche's great day at the plate, in the field and on the mound helped the Lunkers to get a sweep over the Rochester Honkers with a 2-1 win at Mayo Field on Monday.
Roche hit a solo home run in the Top of the 4th to dead center field to put the Lunkers ahead for good.
Roche also shined in the field, making a diving catch in the second and throwing out Rochester's Davey Wright trying to score in the 5th.
And in the Bottom of the 9th, Roche came on to record his 3rd save of the season. The Honkers threatened with runners on the corners and one out in the 9th, but Davey Wright was called for interference as he blocked the throw from the second baseman Tyler Wampler to first baseman Ryan Abrahamson trying to complete the double play.
Joe Willman was strong again for the Lunkers, going seven innings, giving up five hits and one run, striking out six. He gets the win to move to (3-0). Alex Alemann, making his final start for the Honkers this season, takes the loss to fall to (1-4), despite pitching eight innings and striking out four.
With the win, the Lunkers move to (14-9), currently one game behind Mankato with the MoonDogs at home playing Thunder Bay Monday night. After an off day Tuesday, the Lunkers are back in action at home on Wednesday against Rochester. First pitch is set for 7:05 at Mills Field. Aaron Griffin gets the start for Brainerd Lakes Area against Eric Davila for Rochester.
