Lunkers Get Dramatic 4-3 Walk-Off Win Over St. Cloud

A Chris Kubitz wild pitch allowed the Lunkers Steven Brault to score from third base in the Bottom of the 10th inning, giving the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers a 4-3 walk-off win over the St. Cloud River Bats Wednesday night at Stewart C. Mills Field in Brainerd.

The Lunkers held a 2-0 lead going into the 8th inning. The River Bats would strike two off of Lunker reliever Tyler Harris. A Mitchell Garver double would score Korey Wacker, followed by a Jeremy Banks single that brought home Garver.

St. Cloud would score the go-ahead run in the Top of the 9th. CJ Gillman singled and stole 2nd base after Lunker shortstop Tyler Wampler missed the tag. A Connor Eppard single would score Gillman as he slid under the tag of Lunker catcher Jon Crist.

In the Bottom of the 9th against Tim Verthein, the Lunkers would tie the game. A bases loaded infield single from Kye Winter would bring in Dan Olinger to tie the game.

After a 1-2-3 top of the 10th, the Brault single got things going for Brainerd. A sacrifice bunt from Christian Stringer allowed Brault to get to second base. A wild pitch would advance Brault to third and another one on the Dan Olinger walk allowed him to score.

Jason Forjet started for the Lunkers and pitched seven innings of scoreless baseball, striking out seven.

Tyler Sparger came in to the game in the Top of the 10th and got the win. Kubitz took the loss for St. Cloud. The Lunkers move to (9-5) on the season with the River Bats falling to (2-12).

The Lunkers are back in action Thursday night at Alexandria. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
