Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers News Release

The Lunker bats came up with an encore performance on Friday night, following their 10-run performance Thursday with 9 runs Friday for a 9-3 win over the Alexandria Beetles at Knute Nelson Memorial Park.

With the win, the Lunkers take both games in the opening series in Alexandria after the Beetles won the Lunkers home opener.

The game was a pitcher's duel with the Lunkers leading 1-0 for most of the way, until the Top of the 6th inning. After Wade Wass scored an unearned run. Phil Imholte would come up with a couple runners on base to give the Lunkers a 4-0 lead.

Alexandria would come up with three runs in the Bottom of the 7th. Aaron Conyers, who only gave up two hits through the first six innings, struggled in the 7th. The Beetles Mike Leviseur would score, then the Beetles would load the bases. An error and a fielder's choice would allow the Beetles to cut the deficit to 4-3.

The Lunkers would take over from there. With a couple runners on in the 8th, Steven Brault smashed a 2-run triple down the right field line. A Phil Imholte single drove in Brault to make it 7-3 Lunkers.

Dan Olinger provided the cherry on top in the 9th with a 2-run home run, giving the Lunkers the 9-3 win.

Aaron Conyers recorded the win for the Lunkers with Tyler Harris posting a 3 inning save. The loss went to the Beetles Alex Guilford.

The Lunkers are back in action Saturday at 6:05pm against the Duluth Huskies at Mills Field. You can watch the game live at northwoodsleague.tv.
